Manga
Description
Britt Reid, the young publisher of the Daily Sentinel newspaper, leads a double life. By day he is a wealthy playboy and newspaper editor, but by night he becomes the Green Hornet, a masked vigilante who poses as a criminal in order to infiltrate and dismantle organized crime. He is aided by his trusted partner Kato, a skilled martial artist and mechanic who drives the technologically advanced car known as the Black Beauty. The police and the public believe the Green Hornet to be a wanted outlaw, a reputation Reid encourages to move freely among the underworld. The setting is a large, unnamed American city rife with racketeering, corruption, and gang violence. The manga adapts the 1966 television series, following Britt and Kato as they take on a series of criminal syndicates, corrupt politicians, and powerful mob bosses. Key characters include Lenore Case, Britt’s resourceful secretary, and Mike Axford, a former policeman turned reporter. Notable narrative arcs see the duo uncovering deep political corruption that reaches the highest levels of society, facing off against crime lords who wield immense influence, and sometimes dealing with personal conflicts that test their partnership. The manga, serialized in a shonen magazine, balances action-packed martial arts sequences with the duo’s undercover tactics, always leaving behind the Green Hornet’s calling card after delivering criminals to the authorities.
