Description
Tamashiro Neko is a fifteen-year-old witch in training who, following a tradition that witches must stand on their own at that age, is sent by her parents to a quiet seaside town to complete her studies and find her place in the world. Confident at first, Neko quickly discovers that the modern era has all but forgotten magic; no one needs a witch’s services, and she struggles to find any kind of work or purpose. Her first trial begins as she searches for a place to stay and a means to support herself.
Neko eventually sets up a small business offering magical assistance, but customers are scarce. Her fortunes shift when she encounters a talking dog who becomes an unlikely companion, and she slowly builds friendships with a handful of local residents, including a girl named Yayoi and other peers. The story unfolds in short, episodic arcs—each a self-contained problem or encounter—that together trace Neko’s growing confidence, her understanding of what it means to help others, and her evolving relationships. A significant turning point comes when another witch appears in town, challenging Neko’s assumptions about her own abilities and her role in a world that no longer relies on magic.
Over the course of the narrative, Neko learns that being a witch is less about grand spells and more about connecting with people, finding small ways to make a difference, and accepting her own insecurities. The manga balances comedy, slice-of-life moments, and gentle fantasy, emphasizing character growth and community bonds as Neko gradually carves out a new life for herself in a society that has moved past the age of witches.
