In a remote village, a seven-year-old girl named Lerunda grows up in the shadow of her bright, beautiful twin sister. While her sister is praised and cherished, Lerunda is neglected, underfed, and treated worse than a servant. When priests arrive and declare the sister to be a God’s chosen child—a miko, a being blessed by the divine—the entire family is taken away to the Great Temple. Lerunda, deemed worthless, is abandoned in a monster-infested forest by her own parents.

Alone and expecting to die, Lerunda soon realizes something unusual: she is never attacked by monsters. Instead, food conveniently appears, and a friendly sky horse carries her through the air. She eventually finds refuge in the nest of a griffon, the forest’s most powerful magical beast, who welcomes her alongside its own young. As Lerunda navigates the wilderness, she discovers an innate ability to befriend and form contracts with magical creatures. She settles in a village of beastmen, where she begins building a slow, cozy life surrounded by fluffy companions. But peace does not last long. The death of the village chief and the approach of hostile human forces force her to relocate with her growing family of friends to an elven village. There, a new threat awaits: an ancient, vicious monster has nested inside the elves’ sacred spirit tree, tormenting the inhabitants for years. Together with her faithful griffon Gaiaus and other newfound allies, Lerunda faces the creature and awakens to the full extent of her powers. Along the way, she meets the knight of the miko from the capital, a figure who brings unsettling news about her sister’s fate and pushes Lerunda to accept her own role as the world’s true miko.
