Manga
Description
Lala Mizusawa is a third-year biology student at Kamo University who appears to be a flashy, high-energy gyaru. In reality, she is a hardcore science geek with a serious ambition: to become a great scientist. Her extravagant appearance and loud personality often lead others to misunderstand her, but her dedication to research is genuine and intense. She shares her campus life and laboratory work with two close friends and labmates. Hanako Naito is a refined, otaku-spirited young woman from a wealthy family, while Toki Busujima is a perpetually lazy student who often shows up to class in her pajamas. Together, the three navigate the daily routines and small adventures of university research life.

The story is set in their university biology laboratory and the surrounding campus. Their days are filled with distinctly science-oriented activities: celebrating when bacteria cultures grow successfully, using the autoclave to steam sweet potatoes for a snack, and camping out overnight in the lab to continue experiments. The manga is structured as a four-panel comic, focusing on the warm, humorous, and relatable moments of their friendship and studies. Despite her lively confidence, Lala occasionally struggles with self-doubt, feeling that her goal of becoming a great scientist is too large and distant. Her friends support her through these moments, offering encouragement in their own quirky ways.

A notable narrative arc in the second volume involves Lala being chosen as the student representative for an open campus event. Overwhelmed by the feeling that she has not yet achieved anything significant, she becomes anxious. In response, Toki and Hanako devise a plan to help her, which they call the bare-all strategy, pushing her to present her genuine, unpolished self. This arc introduces Lala’s mother and a socially awkward graduate student named Nanoko, expanding the cast.

The third and final volume centers on the university’s largest annual event, the Kamo University Festival. Several storylines converge during the festival. A supporting character named Uekusa enters a beauty contest with Lala’s help, only to face competition from a team formed by Toki and another student named Rinko. Meanwhile, Hanako and Nanoko find themselves in conflict with each other. Each character confronts their own personal worries and struggles, working through their feelings to move forward toward their dreams. The series concludes with a resolution that highlights the characters’ growth and the enduring bonds formed during their university years.
