Description
Ordinary high school student Godo Shiraishi carries a secret: memories of a past life in another world, where he was a hero who saved humanity. Determined to live a quiet, normal life in his reincarnation, he tries to keep his head down. That plan shatters with the arrival of transfer student Mai Shiina. She is also a reincarnated individual—but in her past life, she was a witch who plunged that other world into disaster. In their former existence, the hero and the witch killed each other more times than either cares to remember. When Godo asks Mai what she wants now, her answer is a startling confession: she cannot live without him.

The story takes place in a modern Japanese high school, where these two former arch-enemies must navigate an ordinary school life while grappling with their tangled history. Mai is socially awkward and struggles to express her feelings directly, leading to comedic misunderstandings. Godo, though outwardly indifferent and trying to keep his distance, finds himself drawn into her orbit and into an art club he forms to give Mai a place to belong. Other students gradually join the club: Hina Kirishima, Saya Kawasaki, and Yuuka Shindou, each of whom also develops romantic interest in Godo, turning the dynamic into a harem situation. The series explores Godo's internal conflict between his desire for peace and the growing bond with Mai, as well as the triangular (and quadrangular) romantic tensions with the other heroines.

The narrative unfolds over 34 chapters collected into four tankobon volumes, serialized on Kodansha's Magazine Pocket app from November 2024 to February 2026. Story arcs include Godo and Mai's initial awkward re-acquaintance, the formation of the art club, school festival events, and a climactic choice where Godo must decide which girl to commit to as each heroine confesses her feelings. The light novel originals, written by Kazuki Amamiya and illustrated by Ale, ran for two volumes from 2021 to 2022, with the manga adaptation drawn by You Samori providing a condensed but visually expressive rendition of the same premise. The setting remains grounded in everyday school life, with only sporadic flashbacks to the fantasy world, focusing instead on the comedic and romantic fallout of two bitter enemies trying to coexist as ordinary teenagers.
