A mysterious giant creature called Shindo suddenly appears over Japan, plunging the nation into terror. After immense casualties, a nuclear bomb is used to halt its movement, but this event triggers the emergence of similar colossal beings all over the world. Japan soon faces another wave of attacks, and conventional weapons prove useless against these kaiju. In response, the special giant-creature countermeasure headquarters, known as Shinonome, recruits Air Force ace pilot Yamato Shidou. He is assigned to pilot a secret biological weapon codenamed Kamuy—a living giant creature that can be controlled and deployed against other kaiju. Yamato, a skilled pilot carrying his own personal losses, must learn to synchronize with Kamuy and confront a series of increasingly powerful monsters. Early battles include the armored kaiju Kakewa and the devastating Haten, each pushing Yamato and Shinonome to their limits. When Yamato is incapacitated during an attack by a new kaiju called Zengō, a top-scoring trainee named Tatsumi Akira steps in as Kamuy’s pilot, introducing internal rivalry and tension within the organization. The story unfolds through escalating clashes, strategic gambles, and the human cost of relying on a monster to fight monsters. The narrative builds toward a final confrontation that determines the fate of Japan and the world.
