Yomi Hinosaki is a middle school girl and the only daughter of a family that runs a matchmaking shrine. Despite the shrine’s true purpose, it has gained a terrible reputation as a “relationship-cutting shrine” and a “haunted spot,” so hardly any visitors come. Desperate to restore its popularity—and to earn a larger allowance—Yomi searches for a way to attract people. One day while cleaning the main hall, she discovers a handsome young man relaxing inside. To her shock, he reveals that he is the enshrined god of the shrine. However, this god is a lazy, easygoing deity who cares little about the shrine’s decline. His divine power has weakened so much that ordinary humans can now see him, and he spends his days enjoying modern comforts like streaming movies, listening to music, and brewing coffee.

Yomi angrily blames him for the shrine’s troubles, and her tearful plea moves him to agree to help. She comes up with a plan: they will create a fake couple account on social media and post lovey-dovey photos to show that the shrine can make love come true. The god goes along with the idea, but Yomi is extremely shy and has zero experience with boys. Simply having him put an arm around her shoulder makes her blush and faint from embarrassment. Despite these awkward starts, the two begin running the account, and gradually the shrine starts to gain attention.

As the story progresses, Yomi’s initial nervousness evolves. She finds herself becoming genuinely attracted to the laid-back god, even as she struggles to distinguish acting from real feelings. The god, for his part, slowly becomes more invested in her and the shrine. Their fake relationship faces various comedic and heartfelt challenges, including misunderstandings, the appearance of other characters, and Yomi’s growing awareness of her own heart. Over the course of the series, the pair navigates the line between pretense and authenticity, all while working to revive the shrine’s reputation. The narrative culminates in Yomi fully realizing her love for the god and coming to terms with what that means for both of them.
