Description
High school sophomore Ran is caught off guard when a first-year student she has never met, Hikaru, approaches her in the hallway and declares his love. Hikaru is a handsome, earnest boy who announces that he will come to tell her he loves her every single day. Initially bewildered by the sudden confession, Ran dismisses him as a nuisance. Hikaru, however, remains unfailingly cheerful and persistent, visiting her classroom daily like a devoted puppy. Ran’s aloof and cool demeanor contrasts sharply with his open affection; she values a peaceful school life and tries to keep her distance. Yet her own habit of speaking and acting in a strikingly confident, almost princely manner—her inner “manliness”—unintentionally makes her seem even more appealing to Hikaru.

One day, Ran sees Hikaru surrounded by a group of girls outside her classroom. Assuming he is a flirt, she is ready to lose interest, but she realizes he was actually looking for her. She steps in, takes him by the hand, and leads him away. When he apologizes and says he must be a bother, Ran corners him against the wall and declares, “I’m Maeda Ran from class 2-3. If you’re serious, I’ll be waiting here every day.” That moment cements the turning point: Ran begins to acknowledge his sincerity, and their relationship slowly shifts from one-sided pursuit to mutual development.

As the story progresses, the two spend more time together, navigating awkward but sweet encounters. Their friends—Ran’s classmate Mitsuko and Hikaru’s friend Yamato—provide comic relief and support. When summer arrives, Hikaru invites Ran to a local festival, their first real outing. The event brings them closer, but soon a new complication appears: Tōko, Hikaru’s childhood friend, who has harbored feelings for him since middle school. Her arrival introduces romantic tension and tests the bond between Ran and Hikaru. Meanwhile, Hikaru’s past holds a personal secret that slowly comes to light, adding depth to his seemingly sunny personality.

The manga unfolds in a lighthearted, episodic format, blending comedy and romance. Ran’s naturally “manly” reactions—such as shielding Hikaru from unwanted attention or delivering straightforward, protective lines—consistently make Hikaru’s heart race. For his part, Hikaru’s unwavering loyalty and occasional moments of vulnerability gradually soften Ran’s guarded exterior. Their relationship develops through everyday school life, shared rainy walks under a single umbrella, study sessions, and quiet conversations. The narrative focuses on how two very different people—a cool, independent girl and a warm, affectionate younger boy—learn to understand each other and build a genuine connection.
