Thirty-two-year-old single salaryman Kotaro shares his apartment with four fox deities who have lived for hundreds of years. The deities treat Kotaro like a beloved grandson, doting on him while bringing both blessings and chaos into his everyday life. The leader of the group is Beni, a red-furred fox who governs prosperity in business and is talkative and slightly clumsy. Kin, a yellow-furred glutton, oversees bountiful harvests and loves cooking and farming, though he struggles with modern technology. Shiro, a white-furred silent type, handles the elimination of epidemics and is fastidious about cleanliness; despite his quiet nature, he is fiercely caring when Kotaro falls ill. Kuro, a black-furred youngster, governs good fortune and behaves like a child, speaking in a simple manner and adoring picture books and stuffed animals. When Kuro cries, intense bad luck befalls whoever upset him, so everyone tiptoes around him.

Kotaro’s household also attracts other supernatural beings who blend into modern society. A cat demon named Sumihachi tricks his way into the apartment by pretending to be a weak kitten, and other yokai appear as the story progresses. Kotaro himself grew up in a rural village, raised by his grandfather after his parents’ difficult relationship strained his childhood. He met the four fox deities during that time and has maintained an equal, friendly bond with them ever since. Now an adult, he remains unflappable around the supernatural, treating them with respect and courtesy.

The manga follows their warm, slightly chaotic daily life: cooking together, celebrating holidays, dealing with the quirks of each deity, and encountering new yokai neighbors. Early chapters depict the initial establishment of their household, followed by smaller arcs such as Kotaro’s first encounters with Sumihachi, the foxes’ clumsy attempts to use smartphones, and their involvement in local festivals. Later chapters delve into Kotaro’s childhood memories, including how he first met the deities and the emotional reunion after a long separation.
