The story follows the serious and hardworking salaryman Take (雄山岳), a relentlessly responsible man who cannot refuse a request from anyone. When his grandmother dies, she had asked him to take care of the cat she left behind. He heads to her isolated country house to clean it out, expecting to find a solitary pet. Instead, he discovers a nekomata named Kinka who has been living there as a squatter for the past 80 years, doing absolutely nothing. The house is a disaster zone, and Kinka shows no motivation whatsoever, declaring that a lazy life is the greatest life. Take, naturally orderly and detail-oriented, is horrified but feels obligated to tackle the mess and take charge. This marks the beginning of a chaotic cohabitation between the idle, indolent cat demon and the fussy, overhelpful man in a quiet rural setting.

As they settle into life together, the fundamental mismatch between them drives the comedy. Kinka gleefully undoes every bit of Take's cleaning, lolls about on the veranda, and whines for meals, while Take exhausts himself trying to maintain some semblance of a tidy home. His efforts are further complicated when local children—the brothers Himata and Fukuta—get involved in helping with the overgrown yard, and their older sister also appears. Take's unwillingness to turn anyone away means he keeps taking on more work from the neighbors, all while Kinka remains supremely unhelpful. Their fragile daily rhythm is tested when Take catches a bad cold. His mother, who happens to be visiting while clearing out her own family house, proves to be just as hopeless at housework as Kinka. The two of them together transform the house into even more of a mess, and then the mother drops the bombshell that she is thinking of selling the property, threatening the living arrangement that Take and Kinka have built. The series is a low-stakes, slapstick slice-of-life comedy about two diametrically opposed personalities learning to coexist in an old house, with each new day bringing a fresh clash between sloth and perfectionism.
