A poor boy named Shuta died in his previous life after eating poisoned food. When he was given the chance to reincarnate in another world, he asked the gods for one ability: the power to eat anything without dying. He is reborn in a fantasy world as an orphan living in a slum, still impoverished but now equipped with a skill that lets him consume even the most dangerous and inedible substances safely. In this world, a person's status and stats grow by eating food, and the rarer and more unusual the ingredient, the greater the boost.

Shuta soon discovers that his unique ability allows him to eat items that ordinary adventurers cannot touch, such as poisonous plants, monster parts, and other hazardous materials. While foraging for food in a nearby dungeon called the Forest of Beasts, he befriends a small monster that gives him a rare ingredient. When he eats it, his stats skyrocket. Word spreads, and he gradually attracts a motley group of companions and creatures, including a vampire girl named Silk who lives in the shadows, a dragon-person named Floranta, and various friendly monsters who take a liking to his cheerful, carefree personality.

The story follows Shuta's daily adventures as he explores dungeons, cooks and eats whatever he finds, and steadily grows stronger. Rather than focusing on dramatic battles or a race to the top, the narrative emphasizes his relaxed, slow-paced life, the humorous situations he stumbles into, and the bonds he forms with both people and monsters. Over time, his status continues to climb until he reaches the highest adventurer rank, SSS, almost without realizing it. Key arcs include his visit to the Mansion of the Dead to obtain a vampire's tear for Silk, his participation in a harvest festival and an eating contest, and an episode where he is carried off by a thunder dragon to Lightning Valley, where he lives among the dragon tribe before eventually reuniting with his old friends.
