Tanaka Makoto is an utterly ordinary boy who manages to pass the entrance exam for the regular course of a super prestigious high school, dreaming only of a peaceful, normal student life. On the first day of the entrance ceremony, he accidentally bumps into a petite girl named Okitsune Kyūmi and hurriedly apologizes. As he looks up, he sees what appear to be animal ears on top of her head. The ears vanish instantly, and Makoto convinces himself it was a trick of the light. In truth, Kyūmi is a nine-tailed fox who has come from the spirit world to study what it means to be normal in human society. Makoto and Kyūmi become friends, and from that point on, strange and extraordinary students begin gravitating toward Makoto one after another. Each of these new acquaintances is anything but ordinary, and they all seem to involve themselves in his daily life. At the same time, the elite special advanced course of the school looks down on the regular course and its students, creating a growing tension between the two tracks. Makoto finds himself caught between the supernatural classmates who keep appearing around him and the hostility of the special course students, all while trying to hold on to the simple, normal high school experience he originally wanted. The story follows his struggle to navigate a school life that keeps turning out to be anything but ordinary.
