In a dystopian future where the world is in decline, wolves are believed to have gone extinct. However, they have survived by disguising themselves as humans through a mysterious ability called "fusing." The story centers on Kiba, a lone white wolf driven by an instinctual search for Paradise, a mythical place said to be accessible only to wolves. Along his journey, Kiba encounters other wolves: Tsume, a cynical and independent wolf; Hige, a laid-back and easygoing wanderer; and Toboe, a young and naive wolf raised by humans.
