Description
"Tales of Berseria" is a manga adaptation of the popular action RPG video game of the same name, set in the fantasy world of Desolation. The story unfolds in a land where malevolence, a corrupting force born from negative emotions, threatens humanity. The narrative centers on Velvet Crowe, a young woman whose life is shattered when her younger brother, Laphicet, is sacrificed in a ritual by her mentor, Artorius Collbrande, to suppress a catastrophic event known as the Advent. Consumed by grief and rage, Velvet is transformed into a daemon, a being capable of wielding malevolence, and swears vengeance against Artorius.
Velvet's journey begins as she escapes imprisonment and forms an unlikely alliance with a group of outcasts, each with their own motivations and struggles. Among them is Laphicet, a young malak (a spirit-like being) who shares the name of her deceased brother, and serves as a reminder of her loss. The group also includes Rokurou Rangetsu, a swordsman bound by a curse; Magilou, a enigmatic witch with a penchant for mischief; Eizen, a malak pirate seeking to break free from his fate; and Eleanor Hume, a former exorcist who questions the morality of her order. Together, they navigate a world where the line between good and evil is blurred, challenging the rigid doctrines of the Abbey, an organization led by Artorius that seeks to eradicate malevolence at any cost.
As the story progresses, Velvet's quest for revenge evolves into a deeper exploration of justice, morality, and the nature of human emotions. The group uncovers the truth behind the Advent, the Abbey's true intentions, and the origins of malevolence itself. Themes of sacrifice, redemption, and the consequences of unchecked ambition are woven throughout the narrative, as the characters confront their pasts and grapple with their roles in shaping the future. The manga retains the emotional depth and intricate world-building of the original game, offering a compelling tale of resilience and the enduring power of human connection.
