Tony Fuochi was an Italian voice actor known for his deep and versatile voice, which he lent to a wide array of characters in anime, animated series, and video games over a career spanning more than three decades.
His career in voice acting began after he was noticed by dubbing director Cip Barcellini while working as a radio announcer in the late 1980s. He quickly found work dubbing animated series in Milan, often being cast in roles for large or villainous characters. His first major role as a protagonist came in 1988 with the Italian dubbing of the Rambo animated series.
Fuochi became particularly renowned for his long-standing association with the character Ikki di Phoenix (Phoenix Ikki) in the popular anime I Cavalieri dello zodiaco (Saint Seiya). He first voiced the character in 1990 and continued in the role for all subsequent series and films, including Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Sanctuary, Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Inferno, and Saint Seiya: The Hades Chapter - Elysion, up until his final role in the 2014 film La leggenda del Grande Tempio. Throughout the various Saint Seiya series, he also provided the voices for other characters, including Aldebaran del Toro (Taurus).
Beyond this iconic role, Fuochi's filmography is extensive and varied. In the early 1990s, he became the Italian voice of Mario in all the animated series based on the Nintendo franchise, including Super Mario, Le avventure di Super Mario, and Super Mario World. He voiced numerous other prominent characters, such as Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, in the first seven seasons of Pokémon; the villainous Doctor Eggman (Julian Ivo Robotnik) in Le avventure di Sonic and Sonic; and Megatron in Transformers: Prime and earlier Transformers series. His repertoire also included Zodd in Berserk, the Ox-King and various other characters in the Mediaset dubbing of the Dragon Ball franchise, and Chief Bookem in Kirby: Right Back At Ya!.
In addition to his television work, Fuochi was highly active in dubbing for video games, particularly from the 2000s onward. His notable video game roles include Hephaestus in God of War III, Master Yi in League of Legends, Samael in the Darksiders series, Miraak in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and General Alister Azimuth in Ratchet & Clank: A spasso nel tempo. He also voiced characters in major franchises like Assassin's Creed III, Destiny and its sequel, and Hearthstone.
