Akira Sasanuma is a Japanese voice actor born in Tokyo on March 25, 1973. He is affiliated with the talent management agency Arts Vision. His journey into voice acting was inspired by a childhood admiration for the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, a goal he reportedly declared he would achieve in his elementary school graduation yearbook. He is a training school contemporary and good friend of fellow voice actor Soichiro Hoshi.
Sasanuma has portrayed a wide variety of characters across anime, video games, and other media. He is perhaps best known for his role as the Coordinator pilot Dearka Elsman, which he played in the anime series Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and its sequel Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny. He also voiced Martin DaCosta in the same franchise. He reprised the role of Dearka Elsman years later for the 2024 theatrical film, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Freedom. Another of his internationally recognized roles is providing the Japanese voice for the protagonist Link in the video game The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess and subsequent appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series. In the long-running Hetalia franchise, he is the voice of the character Austria.
In addition to these signature roles, his extensive anime filmography includes Takeshi Manganji in Gekito! Crush Gear Turbo, Isaac Hammond in Strait Jacket, Joshua in B-Legend! Battle Bedaman, and Francis in the Quiz Magic Academy OVA series.
