Stefan Gossler was a highly accomplished German actor and voice artist, renowned for his extensive work in dubbing, particularly for anime and animation. Born in Siegen in 1955, Gossler pursued formal acting training under Else Bongers, which laid the foundation for a diverse and enduring career on stage and behind the microphone. He began his performance career in theater in 1979, with engagements at notable Berlin venues such as the Grips-Theater and the Hansa-Theater, and later showcased his satirical talents at the Stachelschweine cabaret theater.

Gossler's voice became widely recognized by German audiences through his numerous dubbing roles. He was the regular German voice for actor Jackie Chan in many of his films, a role he held since 1995. He also frequently lent his voice to actors like Tim Allen. In the realm of animation, he was known as the voice of King Julien in the Madagascar film series and the subsequent television series The Penguins of Madagascar.

His contributions to anime were particularly extensive and notable. Gossler provided the German voice for a wide array of iconic characters across many popular series. He was the voice of the villain Cell in the German adaptations of Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Z Kai, a role for which he is especially remembered. He also voiced Vodka in the long-running series Case Closed, also known as Detective Conan. His repertoire included the character Dryden Fassa in The Vision of Escaflowne, Keigo Ohnishi in Texhnolyze, and both Grumblemon and Gigasmon in Digimon Frontier.

Gossler brought to life many characters in films and series specifically requested by the user. He voiced the character Lauren in the 2019 anime film Black Fox. In the Black Jack OVA series, he took on the role of Taneda. He was the voice of the enigmatic Jean Descole in the anime film Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva. For the Stitch! anime series, which expands on the Lilo & Stitch franchise, he voiced Dr. van Hamsterdam. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe, Gossler voiced two distinct characters: the antagonist Paradox in the film Yu-Gi-Oh! 3D: Bonds Beyond Time, and Para, one half of the Paradox Brothers, in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series. He also voiced the character Nascal in the series Flint: The Time Detective.

His voice can also be heard in numerous other anime, such as The Rising of the Shield Hero, Hunter x Hunter, Code Geass, Fairy Tail, and Star Wars: Visions. Stefan Gossler passed away in January 2026 at the age of 70, leaving behind a substantial body of work that has defined the German-language versions of countless beloved characters for generations of viewers.
