Isaac Bardavid was a highly regarded Brazilian actor and voice actor, born in Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, on February 13, 1931. He passed away on February 1, 2022, at the age of 90. With a career spanning over five decades, Bardavid became one of the most recognized and prolific voices in Brazilian dubbing, lending his distinctive tone to a vast array of characters in animation, film, and television.

While he was celebrated for his live-action dubbing work, most notably as the Portuguese voice of Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) in the X-Men film series, he also had a substantial and varied career in anime and Japanese animation. His contributions to the genre are numerous and span several decades, as documented in voice acting databases. He is known for playing the role of Dr. Imoshi in the series Yūsei Kamen. He voiced the antagonist Yomi in the OVA adaptation of the classic series Babel II. He also provided the Portuguese voice for the character Prefeito as the second voice in the anime Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z. Another of his credited anime roles is Dr. Tani in the series 8 Man.

His extensive filmography includes a wide range of other significant roles in Japanese animation. He was the voice of Dr. Eggman (also known as Dr. Robotnik) in the Sonic X anime series, building on his earlier work voicing the same character in Western adaptations of the Sonic franchise. He also voiced the character Dr. FRANXX in DARLING in the FRANXX and took on roles in other notable series such as Little Witch Academia as Fafnir, Pokémon Sun & Moon as Hala (known as Pandam in some Portuguese versions), and Kengan Ashura. In the 1980s, he was part of the cast for the anime Groizer X, voicing Chefe Yoshida. His other anime credits include Cyborg. Gaia, and Trigun.

Bardavid's voice was a staple in Brazilian popular culture, not only for his anime roles but also for his work in Western animation, where he famously voiced characters like Skeletor in He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, and in live-action series, such as Commissioner Gordon in Batman: The Animated Series. In addition to his dubbing career, he was a prolific television actor, appearing in numerous classic Brazilian telenovelas from the 1970s onward, including Escrava Isaura and O Cravo e a Rosa.

Even in his later years, Bardavid remained active in the industry, continuing to lend his voice to new projects until shortly before his death from pulmonary emphysema in 2022. His legacy is that of a foundational figure in Brazilian dubbing, whose voice brought to life an extraordinary range of characters for generations of viewers.
