Sumie Sakai

Sumie Sakai is a Japanese actress and voice actress born on April 6, 1945, in Tokyo. She is affiliated with the Tokyo Actor's Consumer's Cooperative Society. Her real name is Sumie Fujino, and she was formerly credited under the name Sumie Sakai using a different writing.

Sakai is known for her work in anime and tokusatsu television series from the late 1960s onwards. In the 1973 anime adaptation of Go Nagai's manga Dororon Enma-kun, she provided the voice for the character Yukiko Hime, a snow woman and member of the Yokai Patrol. Also in the 1970s, she voiced significant roles in other notable anime by Go Nagai, including Miki Makimura in the 1972 series Devilman. Her other anime credits from this early period include Midori Hayakawa in Attack No. 1, and roles in Sabu to Ichi Torimono Hikae, the 1966 series Kimba the White Lion, and Kamui the Ninja.

Beyond anime, Sakai has an extensive career in tokusatsu, the live-action special effects genre. She voiced numerous monster characters in several entries of the Super Sentai series, including Himitsu Sentai Gorenger, Battle Fever J, Denshi Sentai Denziman, and Dengeki Sentai Changeman. Her other tokusatsu credits include Android Kikaider and Barom One. Her career has spanned several decades, with later voice roles including Aiko Tanuma in the 1980 anime Do Your Best Genki and Virginia Jones in the 2010 series Heroman.
