Ionei Silva

Description
Ionei Silva was a Brazilian voice actor, radio announcer, and dubbing director, recognized for his extensive work in dubbing animated series and films for the Brazilian market, particularly during the 1980s. He was born in Uberlândia, Brazil, on February 5, 1942. His career in media began in radio, where he worked as an announcer and director at stations such as Rádio Educadora in his hometown. He later moved to São Paulo, where he continued working in radio before being invited by a friend to try voice dubbing, a field in which he had no prior experience. After successfully passing tests, he began his dubbing career in 1958 at the age of 16.

Following a decade in São Paulo, Silva moved to Rio de Janeiro to take a directorial position at Cinecastro studios. After Cinecastro closed, he continued to work extensively as a voice actor and director at other prominent Rio de Janeiro studios, including Herbert Richers, Peri Filmes, and Delart.

Silva's voice became familiar to Brazilian audiences through numerous characters in animation and live-action productions. In anime and animated series, one of his notable roles was providing the Portuguese voice for Dr. Sam in the series Star Blazers: The Bolar Wars, known in Brazil as Patrulha Estelar. He also voiced an unnamed Decepticon robot, part of the Photon subgroup, in the Portuguese dubbing of an episode of the original Transformers cartoon. Beyond these specific credits, his work encompassed a wide range of characters. He was the first voice of the Dungeon Master in the classic animated series Caverna do Dragão, known in English as Dungeons & Dragons. His other prominent roles included the titular character in the Tutubarão cartoon, the villainous Emperor Palpatine in the Brazilian dubbing of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, and Duarte, the butler in the Richie Rich cartoon. He was also the voice of Tyrone in the Brazilian version of the 1980s live-action series Manimal.

Ionei Silva passed away on July 22, 2013, in his hometown of Uberlândia at the age of 71, due to complications following gallbladder surgery.
