Kanji Tsuda

Description
Kanji Tsuda is a Japanese actor and voice actor born on August 27, 1965, in Fukui Prefecture, Japan. While he has a substantial career in live-action film and television, he is also recognized for his distinctive contributions to anime, often in roles that leverage his dramatic presence.

Tsuda's career in the entertainment industry began in the early 1990s with roles in live-action films, and he has since built an extensive filmography. His work as a voice actor is closely linked to a few key projects that highlight his range. His most prominent and enduring anime role is as the Storyteller in the long-running horror anime series Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories. He began voicing this role in 2013, starting with the series' first season, and has continued to reprise it for numerous subsequent installments, including its 10th season in 2022 and the 15th season in 2025. His narration is a signature element of the show's atmospheric storytelling, which is inspired by traditional paper theater.

In a different vein, Tsuda voiced the character Trava in the 2001-2002 original video animation Trava: Fist Planet. He later reprised this role for the character's appearance as a racer in the high-octane 2009 animated film Redline, which was produced by the same studio, Madhouse. These roles demonstrate his connection to projects directed by Katsuhito Ishii and Takeshi Koike.

More recently, Tsuda was part of the cast for the independent feature anime film Mumei no Jinsei in 2025, where he played the role of Shiratori. His casting in this project, alongside other live-action actors and public figures, reflects a pattern where his live-action acting background complements his anime voice work.

Outside of his voice acting, Tsuda's broader career as an actor has earned him critical acclaim. He received the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actor in 2002, recognizing his performance in live-action films. This award underscores his standing in the Japanese entertainment industry as a versatile performer across both live-action and animated media.
