James Carter Cathcart, known professionally as Jimmy Zoppi, was an American voice actor, voice director, script adaptor, pianist, and vocalist. He was born on March 8, 1954, and passed away on July 8, 2025. Before his voice acting career, he was a musician, playing in bands from high school, including The Laughing Dogs, and leading the Carter Cathcart Band. His first voiceover role was as Cap'n O. G. Readmore on the ABC Weekend Special in the 1980s.

Zoppi was best known for his extensive work in the Pokémon franchise, where he provided the English voices for several iconic characters. Starting with the first movie in 1998, he initially voiced Gary Oak. Beginning in 2006, he took over the roles of James, Meowth, and Professor Oak, succeeding the original voice actors. He appeared in these roles in over 700 episodes of the anime and more than 15 Pokémon films, continuing until his retirement. His filmography includes nearly every Pokémon movie from that era, such as Pokémon: Zoroark: Master of Illusions, Pokémon the Movie: Black—Victini and Reshiram, Pokémon the Movie: Diancie and the Cocoon of Destruction, and Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel.

Beyond Pokémon, Zoppi was a prolific voice actor in numerous English dubs of anime produced in New York. He worked on many titles for 4Kids Entertainment, Central Park Media, and other studios. His other notable roles included Vector the Crocodile in Sonic X and the video game Shadow the Hedgehog, Weevil Underwood in Yu-Gi-Oh!, Miki Kaoru in Revolutionary Girl Utena, and various characters in One Piece, Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. He also voiced characters in series such as The World of Narue, Tama and Friends, and the role of Black Cat in Space Travelers.

Jimmy Zoppi retired from voice acting in 2023 following a diagnosis of throat cancer. He died in 2025 at the age of 71.
