Yōko Ogai
Description
Yōko Ogai is a Japanese voice actress born on July 5, 1959, in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. She is also professionally known by her later stage name, Akari Hibino, which she adopted in August 1999. Her career began in 1981 under her real name, and she initially worked as Yōko Ogai before a period of retirement around 1989. She returned to voice acting in 1994 for the series Captain Tsubasa J and fully resumed her career in 1999. Later in her career, she became active as a rakugo performer under the name Bibiriya Akari.
Ogai is best known for her iconic, long-running role as the young protagonist Tsubasa Ohzora in the soccer anime franchise Captain Tsubasa. She voiced the character across numerous series and films, including Shin Captain Tsubasa, Captain Tsubasa: Holland Youth, Captain Tsubasa: Europe Daikessen, Captain Tsubasa: Ayaushi! Zen Nippon Jr., Captain Tsubasa: Asu ni Mukatte Hashire!, and Captain Tsubasa: Sekai Daikessen!! Jr. World Cup.
Her other major roles from the 1980s include Konpoko in ESPer Mami and the film ESPer Mami: Hoshizora no Dancing Doll, Asa in the Project A-ko film series including Project A-ko 2: Plot of the Daitokuji Financial Group, Shinji Oda in Sonic Soldier Borgman, Hikaru Hiyama in the Kimagure Orange Road: Shonen Jump Special, and Itoko Mukai in Ashita Tenki ni Nāre. She also voiced roles in the Wrestler Gundan series, including Robin God in Go! Wrestler Gundan and Robin God Jr. in Wrestler Gundan Ginga-hen Seisenshi Robin Jr.. Additional credits include the character Cancer in Transformers: Super God Masterforce, Tsutomu in Ganbare! Mōdōken Serve, Tsubasa in Tobe! Pegasus: Kokoro ni Goal ni Shoot, and Grandma in My Melody no Akazukin.
Outside of the roles listed, other notable parts in her career include Feitan in the 1999 version of Hunter × Hunter and Okita Sōji in the Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal OVA. She was married to Yōichi Takahashi, the manga creator of Captain Tsubasa.
