Four university students who share a deep passion for railways, Misaki Sata, Kodama Orihara, Ushio Yagami, and Usa Harutachi, are members of their university's Railway Travel Club, often shortened to Tetsuryo. Driven by their enthusiasm for all things related to trains, they embark on journeys to stations and railway sites across Japan. Their travels bring them into contact with the many different Tetsudō Musume, or Railway Girls, who work in a variety of jobs for real railway companies and related businesses throughout the country, each wearing authentic work uniforms. As the four friends explore this world, they meet and learn from these professionals, deepening their own appreciation for the people and stories behind Japan's railway system.
