Description
In an age of widespread espionage where spies operate behind the scenes of every land, the most skilled among them is a young woman known as Chloe. Sold by her destitute parents at the age of eight, she was trained into a lethal operative with unparalleled martial arts and disguise abilities that allow her to flawlessly assume any identity. After years of service, she discovers that her handler has been hiding the fact that her family has been dead for some time, using the lie to maintain her loyalty. Following this betrayal, she fakes her own death and flees to the neighboring kingdom of Ashberry, desperate to abandon her old life forever.
Adopting the name Victoria Sellers, she hopes to live as a normal, peaceful citizen. Her plans for anonymity, however, are immediately complicated when she encounters a young abandoned girl named Nonna. Taking on the role of a single mother, Victoria adopts the child and begins to build a new family. Her efforts to keep a low profile are further challenged when her quick thinking and physical prowess inadvertently help the captain of the royal knights, Jeffrey Asher, apprehend a criminal. The honest and kind-hearted Jeffrey becomes intrigued by the mysterious Victoria, beginning a slow-burn romance between the two adults.
Despite her attempts to hide her past, Victoria finds that her former skills are not easily suppressed. As she navigates her new life as a mother and her growing feelings for Jeffrey, her extraordinary abilities continue to draw unwanted attention from powerful figures, including the second prince and agents from the shadowy organization she fled. While she strives to protect her peaceful domestic life, the conspiracies and threats from her former world gradually close in on her, forcing her to confront the fact that one cannot simply discard every face they have worn.
The narrative follows Victoria as she struggles to balance her desire for a quiet, domestic existence with the reality that her unique talents make her indispensable. Nonna, who proves to be remarkably intelligent and talented in her own right, begins to inadvertently follow in her adoptive mother's footsteps, picking up survival skills and becoming a source of chaos and support. As the series progresses, the political situation in Ashberry grows more volatile due to the discovery of a gold mine, raising the threat of war. This escalation eventually forces Victoria and Jeffrey to utilize their skills in service of the crown, protecting the royal family from assassination attempts and negotiating peace, pulling them away from the simple life Victoria had envisioned for herself and her new family.
