Description
"Medaka Box" is set in Hakoniwa Academy, where the student council operates a suggestion box known as the Medaka Box. Students submit their problems and requests, and the council, led by the charismatic and overwhelmingly capable Medaka Kurokami, takes on the task of resolving them. Medaka, the student council president, is a prodigious individual with exceptional physical and intellectual abilities, often described as a "superhuman." Her unwavering determination to help others drives the council's activities, which range from mundane tasks to more complex and dangerous challenges.
The series initially presents episodic problem-solving scenarios, with Medaka and her council members addressing various student concerns. These early episodes focus on establishing the personalities and dynamics of the main characters. Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, Medaka's childhood friend and vice president, serves as a grounded counterpoint to her larger-than-life persona. Despite his ordinary abilities, Zenkichi is fiercely loyal and often acts as the voice of reason. Other council members include Akune Kouki, a former delinquent with a strong sense of justice, and Kikaijima Mogana, a pragmatic and resourceful treasurer.
As the story progresses, the tone shifts from lighthearted problem-solving to a more intense narrative involving the Flask Plan, a secretive project aimed at creating "abnormals"—individuals with extraordinary abilities. Medaka herself is revealed to be a product of this plan, designed to be the ultimate human. This revelation introduces a deeper layer of conflict, as Medaka and her allies confront the enigmatic figures behind the Flask Plan, including her estranged twin sister, Najimi Ajimu, and the manipulative Kumagawa Misogi, a former student council president with the ability to negate reality.
The series explores themes of power, identity, and the nature of humanity, with Medaka grappling with her purpose and the implications of her abilities. The narrative delves into the complexities of her relationships, particularly with Zenkichi, whose feelings for her evolve from admiration to a deeper emotional connection. The council's battles against the Flask Plan's agents and their own personal struggles form the core of the later arcs, culminating in a climactic confrontation that tests their resolve and unity.
"Medaka Box" blends elements of comedy, action, and psychological drama, with a focus on character development and philosophical undertones. The series transitions from a straightforward school-based narrative to a more intricate exploration of its characters' motivations and the ethical dilemmas surrounding the Flask Plan. Through its evolving storyline, the series maintains a balance between its initial lighthearted tone and the darker, more complex themes that emerge as the plot unfolds.

1The Girl Who Is a Medaka
Medaka Kurokami wins the Hakoniwa Academy student council presidential election with 98.5 percent of the vote. She appoints Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, her childhood friend, as vice-president without his consent. Medaka introduces a wooden box labeled "Medaka Box" as a suggestion box for student problems. The first request comes from a first-year girl named Mogana Kikaijima, who lost her cherished hair ribbon. Medaka drags Zenkichi to search the school. She identifies the ribbon's location by analyzing footprints and air currents. Medaka finds the ribbon inside the boys' bathroom on the third floor. A male student tries to stop her from entering, but Medaka forces the door open and retrieves the ribbon. She returns the ribbon to Kikaijima. The second request involves a missing eraser, which Medaka locates lodged inside a desk. Zenkichi questions her extreme dedication, and Medaka explains that she wants to make every student happy through direct action. A new request arrives sealed in a black envelope, with the sender's identity unknown, presenting an unresolved mystery that drives the next episode.
6Medaka Kurokami's Counterattack
Medaka Kurokami faces Unzen Myouri in the final stage of their battle. Unzen activates War God Mode,a technique that uses one hundred martial arts skills simultaneously. Medaka endures his initial assault. She then activates her abnormality, The End, which copies and perfects any ability she witnesses. Medaka executes an enhanced version of War God Mode. She lands a decisive blow that incapacitates Unzen. Unzen asks why Medaka did not kill him. Medaka explains that she never takes lives and intends to reform him instead. The Flask Plan's objective becomes clear: to create artificial abnormalities in ordinary humans. Unzen and his subordinates served as test subjects for this project. Medaka offers Unzen a chance to abandon the plan. The Student Council members regroup and discuss the implications of Medaka's power. Zenkichi Hitoyoshi observes Medaka's relentless commitment to helping even her enemies. The episode closes with Medaka turning her attention to the remaining supporters of the Flask Plan.
11The Reason She Fights
Medaka Kurokami faces Unzen Myouri inside the Flask Plan headquarters. Unzen activates his "Scar Dead" ability, which reopens Medaka's previous injuries. Blood flows from Medaka's body as old wounds tear open again. Unzen's ability exploits physical trauma, turning Medaka's past battles against her. Each reopened wound weakens her further. Unzen asks why she continues to fight despite the pain. Medaka does not answer but keeps attacking. Zenkichi Hitoyoshi watches from a concealed location. He recalls a childhood memory from six years ago. In that memory, a young Medaka saves Zenkichi from three bullies. She tells him that she fights to make everyone around her happy. Zenkichi's memory reveals Medaka's childhood philosophy unchanged since elementary school. He realizes that Medaka's strength comes from her desire to protect others. He stops hesitating and runs toward the fight. Medaka endures Unzen's repeated strikes without falling. Her body shows severe damage, but she remains standing. The episode ends with Zenkichi bursting onto the scene as Unzen prepares another attack. Medaka's refusal to yield forces the confrontation to continue into the next episode.
12Medaka Box
Medaka Kurokami faces Myouri Unzen in the final battle of the Flask Plan. Unzen activates his Zero ability, which nullifies all attacks directed at him. Medaka struggles to land a hit as Zero erases the force from her strikes. She then activates her inherited skill, The End, which copies and perfects any supernatural ability she witnesses. Medaka copies Zero and uses it to cancel Unzen's own nullification. She defeats Unzen with a direct blow. After the battle, the student council learns that the Flask Plan aimed to create ordinary humans by removing all abnormal traits. The plan's leader, the school chairman and Medaka's father, explains that he wanted to protect Medaka from a world that rejects exceptional individuals. Medaka rejects his reasoning and declares that she will continue to help everyone, regardless of their abnormalities. She reaffirms her role as student council president alongside Zenkichi Hitoyoshi, Kikajima Shiranui, and Mogana Kikaijima. The episode closes with the council returning to their daily routine of resolving student requests. In a post-credits scene, a new transfer student named Misogi Kumagawa appears, smiling as he announces his intention to destroy the student council.
