Description
"BRONZE KoJi NANJo cathexis" is a two-episode OVA series that serves as a sequel to the 1980s anime "Ai no Kusabi," adapting the original light novels by Rieko Yoshihara. The story is set in a dystopian future where society is rigidly stratified, governed by a powerful AI system called Jupiter. The narrative centers on the complex relationship between Iason Mink, a high-ranking Blondie elite, and Riki, a former street fighter from the slums of Ceres. Their bond, which began in the original series, continues to evolve in this sequel, exploring themes of power, control, and emotional dependency.
The plot picks up after Riki's escape from Iason's control, only to be recaptured and brought back to the elite city of Tanagura. Iason, despite his cold and calculating demeanor, struggles with his growing emotional attachment to Riki, a sentiment that defies the norms of their society. Riki, on the other hand, grapples with his conflicting feelings of resentment and reluctant affection toward Iason. Their dynamic is further complicated by the societal expectations placed on Iason as a Blondie, as well as the lingering influence of Riki's past life in the slums.
Secondary characters, such as Guy, Riki's former lover and ally from Ceres, and Katze, a black-market dealer with ties to both worlds, play significant roles in the unfolding drama. Guy's attempts to rescue Riki and Katze's involvement in the underground resistance add layers of tension and intrigue to the story. The narrative delves into the power struggles within Tanagura, the oppressive nature of Jupiter's rule, and the personal sacrifices made by the characters in their pursuit of freedom and connection.
The series maintains a somber and introspective tone, focusing on the psychological and emotional struggles of its characters. It examines the consequences of a society built on inequality and the ways in which individuals navigate their roles within such a system. The relationship between Iason and Riki remains the central focus, with their interactions reflecting broader themes of dominance, submission, and the search for identity in a dehumanizing world. The OVA concludes with an open-ended resolution, leaving the fate of the characters and their world ambiguous, yet resonant with the series' overarching themes.
