TV-Series
Description
Minoru Aramata is the Chief Engineer at the United Nations Kurobe Laboratory, a research facility built around an ancient artifact discovered during the construction of the Kurobe Dam. He is an expert in solid state physics and geology, and he was directly in charge of excavating the artifact, which includes the large black cube and the geoframe that would later be identified as the Black Relic. His professional role places him at the center of the laboratory's efforts to understand and reverse-engineer the alien technology found at the site. Aramata is a responsible and capable engineer who takes his duties seriously, and he is the one who proposes showing the artifact to Yukina Shirahane when she visits the lab, a decision that sets the story in motion. Throughout the series, he serves as a key logistical and technical support figure, coordinating the laboratory's response to the extraterrestrial threat posed by Efi Dorg. He works closely with the laboratory's director, Hiromi Shirahane, and regularly communicates with the pilots and navigators of the GAUS units, including Tom Borden and Liu Shenmei. Aramata's expertise is vital for maintaining and upgrading the lab's defensive geoframes and for analyzing the alien technology. His motivations are grounded in scientific curiosity and a strong sense of duty to protect the lab and its personnel. He shows no significant personal development arc but remains a steady, reliable presence who ensures that the laboratory's resources are used effectively against the invasions. His notable abilities lie not in combat but in his deep technical knowledge and his leadership of the engineering team that supports the human and mecha defenders.
