Description
Mirai Yashima, later Mirai Noa, hails from Earth's influential Kyushu-based Yashima family. Her father, Shou Yashima, CEO of the Yashima Company, aided Earth Federation diplomacy with the Principality of Zeon before his death prior to the One Year War, contributing to her early emotional insecurity and distrust.
During the One Year War, she volunteered aboard the SCV-70 White Base after the Side 7 attack. Her background as a space glider pilot led to her role as helmsman. She became a trusted deputy to Captain Bright Noa and assumed maternal responsibilities for younger crew members. Her duties encompassed navigation, battle station coordination, and operational support, such as preparing stations during Amuro Ray's distress signal investigation and altering course during personnel searches, requiring constant composure under pressure.
Her relationships evolved significantly. She briefly reunited with fiancé Cameron Bloom in Side 6 but distanced herself over his avoidance of military service. She also experienced a fleeting attraction to Sleggar Law; recognizing their incompatibility, he gifted her his mother's ring before his death. She married Bright Noa after the war, bearing two children: Hathaway and Cheimin.
In the Gryps Conflict, the family resided in a Federation military residence at Jaburo, effectively hostages securing Bright's loyalty. After Bright defected to the AEUG, she orchestrated the children's escape from Earth. Arranging transit in Hong Kong, she encountered Amuro Ray, reassuring Beltorchika Irma about her family's stability despite Bright's absence. Later captured to force Karaba's surrender of the Audhumla, she and the children were rescued by Amuro and Kamille Bidan. She advised Kamille regarding Amuro's past with Lalah Sune and chose separation from Bright to avoid distraction during operations, accepting support from Stephanie Luio. She maintained communication via recorded messages, visibly moving Bright.
During the Second Neo Zeon War, she attempted to evacuate Earth with her children amid Char Aznable's asteroid drop. At a spaceport in the attack's path, she sacrificed her shuttle seat for Hathaway, claiming she and Cheimin would follow. Unable to depart, they witnessed the Axis Shock phenomenon from Hong Kong.
Regarding the Alegranza Island mission depicted in "Cucuruz Doan's Island," she supported Captain Bright Noa's command decisions, including operational adjustments during Amuro Ray's disappearance. Her interactions with Bright included subtle emotional support, such as pouring coffee during tense moments, reflecting their established dynamic as colleagues and later spouses.
