Description
Dreyfus is a central figure within the Holy Knights of the kingdom of Liones, first appearing as one of its two Great Holy Knights. Physically, he is a tall and broad-shouldered man standing 185 centimeters tall, with a sturdy build and long, wavy brown hair that falls to his shoulders, often complemented by a short beard. His typical attire consists of a set of green or red armor with spikes on the shoulders. In his younger years as a knight, his hair was shorter and his appearance less weathered, a style he later returns to after the events of his possession.

Initially, Dreyfus is portrayed as a stern, dignified, and deeply dutiful soldier. He is dedicated to preparing the kingdom for a prophesied Holy War, believing that high morale and absolute readiness are essential, even if it requires harsh measures such as placing the king under watch or pushing citizens to their limits for the military effort. Despite this serious and sometimes ruthless exterior, Dreyfus harbors a profound love for his son, Griamore. The news of Griamore's supposed death sends him into a deep depression, locking himself away for days to mourn. Beneath his composed surface lies a well of personal insecurity, specifically a deep-seated jealousy and a sense of inferiority towards his older half-brother, Zaratras, the previous Great Holy Knight. This envy was worsened by the fact that even his own son looked up to Zaratras as a hero.

The driving motivation behind Dreyfus's actions is revealed to be a desire to become a powerful knight who can protect his people and, most importantly, become someone his son could be proud of. This simple, noble dream is tragically corrupted when he becomes the target of the demon Fraudrin. While investigating the ruins of the Kingdom of Danafor years ago, the severely weakened demon offered Dreyfus power in exchange for his body. Dreyfus refused out of loyalty to his brother, but when Fraudrin instead possessed his close friend and fellow knight, Hendrickson, Dreyfus was blackmailed into surrendering his own body to save him. For over a decade, Fraudrin controlled Dreyfus's form, orchestrating the murder of Zaratras and the framing of the Seven Deadly Sins, all while Dreyfus was a helpless prisoner in his own mind.

His role in the story is therefore that of a tragic figure. For much of the series, he acts as an antagonist, his body used by Fraudrin to sow chaos. Yet, traces of the real Dreyfus's personality occasionally surface through the demon's control, such as his genuine grief over his son and his conflicted feelings towards Hendrickson. His key relationships are defined by this possession. His bond with Hendrickson is a complex mix of friendship and betrayal, as Fraudrin used Hendrickson's ambition to further its own goals. His relationship with his son, Griamore, is the purest part of his character, a source of strength that persists even under demonic influence. His relationship with his late brother, Zaratras, is one of guilt and longing for approval.

Dreyfus undergoes a profound character development. He is freed from Fraudrin's control when the spirit of his brother, Zaratras, uses his remaining power to perform a purification spell, expelling the demon for good. Liberated from the demon that stole his life, Dreyfus sheds his long hair and beard, symbolizing a fresh start. He resigns as Great Holy Knight, burdened by guilt for the crimes committed with his body, and dedicates himself to making amends. In the aftermath of the Holy War, he retires from active duty as a knight and becomes a swordsmanship instructor, using his decades of experience to train the next generation of protectors.

As a warrior, Dreyfus is incredibly skilled, with swordsmanship that was said to surpass even that of his brother Zaratras. His primary magical ability is called Break. This power allows him to release piercing shockwaves from his sword, capable of penetrating almost any physical defense. He can focus this energy into a powerful thrust named Rakan or unleash his ultimate technique, Tenkan Hagojin, which channels all of his magic into a single, devastatingly powerful blast. Interestingly, after being freed from Fraudrin, Dreyfus retained some of the demon's residual power, including the ability to use Full Size, which allows him to giantify his body to greatly enhance his physical strength and durability.
