Description
Laocorn Gaudeamus is a descendant of the ancient king Gaudeamus of Rhodes, a powerful warrior who once wielded the legendary Armor of Mars. Orphaned after his father was killed by a jealous business partner during an expedition to find the armor, Laocorn grew up alongside his twin sister Sulia. Seeking revenge, he confronted his father’s murderer, was shot, and his arm fell upon a fragment of the Armor of Mars. The piece fused with him, granting him supernatural power and allowing him to kill the murderer. The fusion warped his mind, driving him to an obsession with gathering the remaining five pieces of the armor in order to gain ultimate power.

His personality before the armor’s influence was that of a well-meaning but insecure individual who felt weak and powerless. The armor’s corrupting influence made him arrogant, ruthless, and drunk with power, as the Armor of Mars carried the will of the god of war. Despite this, his core nature remained underneath; once the armor was stripped away, he regained his senses and sought redemption.

In the story, Laocorn serves as the primary antagonist. He leads a small group of henchmen—Panni, Hauer, and Jamin—to recover the pieces of the Armor of Mars, which had been scattered across the world centuries ago after its original destruction. His goal is to reassemble the armor and become a god-like being. His actions force his sister Sulia to seek help from Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard, Joe Higashi, and Mai Shiranui, setting the main conflict in motion.

The most significant relationship in his life is with his twin sister Sulia. They share a psychic bond, which allows her to sense his emotions and location, and also makes them vulnerable to each other’s pain. Laocorn cares for Sulia but his obsession with the armor overrides his familial love. His interactions with the Bogard brothers and the other heroes are hostile; he views them as obstacles to be eliminated. His henchmen are loyal but expendable tools in his quest.

Laocorn undergoes notable development over the course of the film. Initially, he is a driven and seemingly unstoppable villain. After he collects all six pieces, the armor fully encases him, granting him immense power and seemingly turning him into an invincible being. However, when Sulia stabs herself to exploit their psychic bond and weaken him, Terry Bogard shatters the breastplate, causing the armor to separate from him. Freed from the armor’s influence, Laocorn realizes that he was merely a vessel for the god Mars to be resurrected. In a moment of redemption, he sacrifices his own life to protect Andy and Mai from an attack by the reawakened Mars, allowing the heroes to ultimately defeat the god.

Laocorn’s notable abilities are entirely derived from the Armor of Mars. When wearing the armor, he possesses energy projection, allowing him to fire blasts of destructive force. He is nearly invulnerable to physical harm, can translocate instantaneously, and can manifest ghost-like astral limbs for both defense and attack. His finishing techniques include the Dark Blitz Ball and the Dark Kaiser Wave, moves based on the martial arts of Wolfgang Krauser. Without the armor, he has no superhuman powers and relies on his natural fighting skills, which are modest compared to his armored state.
