TV-Series
Description
Anita King is a central character from the anime R.O.D -The TV- and is known as the youngest member of the Paper Sisters detective agency. At thirteen years old, she is a junior high school student of Chinese nationality who stands 141 centimeters tall. Despite her small stature, she possesses a fierce and energetic presence that defines much of her interactions with the world around her.

Anita's personality is characterized by her brash, outspoken, and blunt demeanor. She is a self-assured spitfire who is not afraid to speak her mind, often coming across as bratty or self-important. This tough exterior, however, belies a deep and genuine care for those close to her, particularly her adopted sisters. She is surprisingly practical and level-headed compared to her older siblings, often serving as the voice of reason when it comes to finances and daily responsibilities, as she frequently chides Michelle and Maggie for spending all their money on books. Anita is well-liked by her peers at school and makes friends relatively easily, forming a particularly strong bond with her classmate Hisami Hishiishii. Her personality clashes frequently with the author Nenene Sumiregawa, leading to a bickering relationship that masks a growing mutual respect and friendship.

The motivations that drive Anita are rooted in her unique and troubled background. Unlike most paper masters, who possess a deep love for literature, Anita famously dislikes books. This ironic trait stems from a traumatic early memory of being surrounded by flames in the British Library, an event that instilled a subconscious fear and hatred of books. Her primary motivation throughout the story is the protection and well-being of her two sisters, Michelle and Maggie. As a failed genetic experiment created by the British Library to be an artificial paper master, Anita was deemed a failure and later kidnapped. She found a true family with Michelle and Maggie, and this bond is the most important thing in her life. She fights fiercely to keep her sisters safe, and her fear of losing them is a powerful driving force in her actions. Her journey also involves gradually confronting her trauma and learning to accept, if not love, the books that are so integral to the people she cares about.

In the story, Anita fulfills the role of the offensive powerhouse and close-combat specialist for the Paper Sisters. When the sisters are hired to act as bodyguards for the author Nenene Sumiregawa, Anita becomes an integral part of their adventures in Japan, balancing her duties as a protector with her life as a junior high school student. She is thrust into a complex conflict involving shadowy organizations like Dokusensha and the British Library, where she must confront the truth of her own creation and the nature of her powers.

Key relationships define Anita's development throughout the series. Her bond with Michelle and Maggie is the emotional core of her character. Though they are not related by blood, they are a true family, and Anita's love for them is unwavering. She has a close and meaningful friendship with her classmate Hisami Hishiishii, who loves books and helps Anita see the value in them. This friendship is so important that Hisami compares their closeness to that of Anne and Diana from Anne of Green Gables. Anita also forms a complicated friendship with a boy named Junior, who initially approaches her under false pretenses. Despite feeling betrayed when his true identity is revealed, she ultimately forgives him, showing her capacity for understanding. Her relationship with Nenene evolves from one of mutual annoyance to a deep, sister-like bond built on shared trials and respect for each other's strength. Her arc also brings her into conflict with Yomiko Readman, the original Paper, as Anita harbors a deep-seated resentment towards her for causing the library fire that traumatized her as a child.

Anita's notable abilities as a paper master are highly specialized. She excels at offensive combat, using paper as a weapon. Her signature technique involves using individual sheets or index cards as razor-sharp throwing blades, similar to shuriken. She also wields paper as a close-combat weapon, shaping it into blades. In a fight, Anita is responsible for taking the fight directly to the enemy. To supplement her paper powers, she relies heavily on her natural physical abilities, demonstrating exceptional agility, speed, strength, and flexibility for a child her age. She is a capable martial artist and is not afraid to use hand-to-hand combat. This aggressive, offense-oriented style does come with a significant drawback: her defensive capabilities are notably weak. Unlike other paper masters who can block bullets with a single sheet, Anita requires a thick stack or an entire book to create a reliable shield, making her vulnerable and dependent on her sisters to cover her.
