ONA
Description
Nephrite is a member of the Shitennou, the four knights who served Prince Endymion during the Silver Millennium. In that past life, he held the title of Knight of Intelligence and Comfort. Along with the other Shitennou, he was manipulated by Queen Beryl and Queen Metallia into attacking the Moon Kingdom. Reborn in the present era, he is brainwashed and serves as one of the Dark Kingdom’s generals, appearing as the second Shitennou after the defeat of Jadeite. He is named after the mineral nephrite, a variety of jade.

His personality is defined by a quick temper, pride, and emotional intensity. He is described as cocky and prone to rash actions, frequently failing in his assigned tasks despite his earnest efforts to gain favor with Queen Beryl. His frustrations often cause him to become flustered, and he is reluctant to ask for help even when his plans go awry. He is initially competitive with Jadeite for the queen’s attention.

Nephrite’s primary motivation is to locate the Maboroshi no Ginzuishou (the Silver Crystal) and gather human energy for the Dark Kingdom. He also seeks to avenge Jadeite’s defeat, which drives his early actions. Queen Beryl tasks him with finding the Silver Crystal and later with identifying the princess of the Moon.

In the story, his role is that of a recurring antagonist during the Dark Kingdom arc. He uses a shadowlike ability to disguise himself, often as women, to infiltrate and possess targets, draining their energy. He also employs a black crystal as a homing device to track the Silver Crystal. His abilities include conjuring illusions, sword fighting, and teleportation. He is a firm believer that human destiny is guided by the stars, and he uses astrology to select victims at their peak energy potential.

His key relationships include his connection to Sailor Jupiter. In this continuity, Nephrite is romantically linked to Makoto Kino, a pairing that is referenced in the manga and depicted in Crystal. He is also one of Prince Endymion’s former knights, placing him in opposition to Mamoru Chiba when under the Dark Kingdom’s control. His interactions with fellow Shitennou are characterized by rivalry and occasional cooperation.

Nephrite undergoes notable development. In Act 12, his brainwashing is broken, but he and the other Shitennou are killed immediately afterward. Their spirits, however, persist within colored gemstones, offering guidance to their true master. Later in the series, he is revived as an ordinary human without his powers, working as a clerk at Crown Karaoke under Motoki. In this second life, he remains quick to anger and often breaks things, but he eventually finds a degree of peace with his mundane existence. His final demise occurs when Princess Sailormoon destroys the Earth, ending his second life.
