Description
Nena Trinity is the youngest of the three Trinity siblings and a member of Team Trinity, a second team of Gundam Meisters affiliated with the organization Celestial Being. She and her brothers, Johann and Michael, were created as designer babies through genetic manipulation, granting them exceptional physical abilities and making them suitable for their role as mobile suit pilots. Nena pilots the GNW-003 Gundam Throne Drei during the first season of Mobile Suit Gundam 00, and later she also operates the GNW-003/SH Liang in the second season.
In terms of personality, Nena is often described as impulsive, self-centered, and prone to acting without regard for the consequences of her actions. She frequently presents a cheerful and carefree demeanor, habitually smiling and making a V-sign with her fingers, but beneath that surface she is as ruthless as her siblings, showing little concern for human life. She forms a strong emotional attachment to fellow Gundam Meister Setsuna F. Seiei, whom she kisses upon first meeting, an advance he rejects. Her loyalty to her brothers is fierce, and after they are killed by the mercenary Ali al-Saachez, she becomes the sole surviving member of Team Trinity, driving her toward a singular focus on revenge.
Nena plays a dual role in the story. In the first season, she and her brothers operate independently from the main protagonists, carrying out their own missions as part of Celestial Being’s plan. Her Throne Drei is equipped to serve a support function within the team: it stores large quantities of highly concentrated GN particles and can generate a GN field that transfers particles to allied units and interferes with enemy communications. After her brothers’ deaths at the end of the first season, Nena survives and resurfaces in the second season working as an agent for Wang Liu Mei, spying on the Innovators and gathering intelligence. During this period, she also demonstrates the ability to interface directly with the supercomputer Veda and to eavesdrop on quantum brainwave communications.
A pivotal event in her history is the massacre of a wedding party, which she carries out out of boredom and frustration while flying over the ceremony. That attack kills the entire family of Louise Halevy, an act that later leads to Louise seeking revenge. Nena’s pursuit of vengeance against Ali al-Saachez and her continued involvement with the conflicts of the second season ultimately culminate in a confrontation with Louise, who kills Nena in retribution for the destruction of her family. Throughout the series, Nena is accompanied by a purple Haro unit that assists her in operating the Throne Drei, and she develops a brief working relationship with figures such as Regene Regetta.
Her notable abilities include her enhanced piloting skills as a genetically modified human, her direct neural interface with Veda, her capacity to intercept quantum brainwave signals, and her mastery of the Throne Drei’s unique GN field and particle-management systems. Her development arc moves from being a casually destructive member of a rogue Gundam team to a isolated, revenge-driven agent, ending with her death at the hands of a victim of her own earlier cruelty.
