Description
Layla Hamilton is a central character in the anime Kaleido Star. She is introduced as the star performer of the Kaleido Stage, known for her exceptional talent and graceful acrobatics. Layla initially appears as a proud and somewhat distant figure. She is the daughter of a wealthy hotel chain owner who wishes for her to become an actress, but Layla's passion lies in the circus arts. Her mother, who passed away when Layla was six years old, loved attending performances at the Kaleido Stage, and this memory fuels Layla's devotion to the stage. Layla is fiercely independent and prefers to rely on herself, rarely showing vulnerability. She has a strong will and refuses to give up on any task she begins. When Sora Naegino joins the troupe, Layla is at first dismissive and antagonistic, viewing her as an inexperienced dreamer. However, through Sora's persistence and hard work, Layla gradually opens her heart. Their partnership in a performance called Freedom symbolizes their overcoming of differences, and they become close friends. Layla's abilities include mastery of demanding routines such as the Golden Phoenix, the Legendary Maneuvre, and the Fire Phoenix. Her role in the story is that of both a rival and a mentor to Sora. A pivotal moment occurs when Layla attempts the great Mystical Act and seriously injures her shoulder, leading her to retire from the circus and pursue a career on Broadway. In the second season, she returns to the stage to challenge Sora in a production of Swan Lake, seeking to reclaim the Angel's Act. Ultimately, she continues her path in Off-Broadway theater. Throughout the series, Layla evolves from a solitary perfectionist into a supportive friend who values connection and teamwork. Her journey is defined by her search for personal fulfillment and the courage to follow her own path despite external pressures.
