TV-Series
Description
Dewey Novak is the primary antagonist of the series, a charismatic and calculating figure whose quest for power is driven by a deep, pathological hatred for his younger brother, Holland, and the alien Scub Coral that has infested the planet.
Dewey possesses a tall, regal bearing, with long white hair tied in a ponytail and pale blue eyes, and he typically wears an immaculate white military uniform and cape. His background is rooted in the Novak family's ancient duty to perform a ritual that would calm the planet, a role that required an act of patricide and was meant to be his birthright as the eldest son. However, when his mother died giving birth to Holland, the title of "Sacrificial King" was automatically passed to the newborn. Consumed by resentment, Dewey later murdered his father, but the planet rejected the ritual and his claim to succession. This rejection left him orphaned, stripped of his family's noble status, and instilled in him a lifelong hatred for both his brother and the planet itself for denying him what he believed was his destiny.
On the surface, Dewey presents himself as a strict, fair, and charismatic leader who has humanity's best interests at heart. Beneath this facade lies an extremely manipulative, egotistical, and cold-hearted sociopath. He is driven solely by his ego and his desire to eradicate the Scub Coral, viewing the world as beyond redemption and seeing it as his duty to destroy the current world to create a new one from its ashes. This nihilistic and delusional conviction makes him believe he is the savior of humankind, even as his actions push the planet toward destruction.
In the story, Dewey is first seen being released from a three-year imprisonment, which he served as punishment for the desertion of Holland and his SOF unit. Upon his release, he is promoted to colonel and quickly uses his intelligence and political acumen to undermine the public's faith in the ruling Sage Council, eventually seizing control of the United Federation's military forces. His overarching goal is to exterminate the Scub Coral. To achieve this, he orchestrates attacks that provoke the Coral into unleashing deadly Antibodies, which he then has his forces "defeat" to win public favor. He commands the experimental LFO theEND and its pilot, Anemone, whom he cynically treats as a disposable tool. He also creates the Ageha Squad, a group of young girls who are victims of ethnic cleansing and fanatically loyal to him.
Dewey's key relationships are defined by control and hatred. His primary animosity is reserved for his younger brother, Holland, whom he mocks and despises for taking his birthright. He views others, including Anemone and his subordinate Dominic Sorel, as mere instruments for his plans, showing no regard for their well-being. His rivalry with Holland and the Gekkostate forms the central conflict of the series, though he initially dismisses them as a threat until he sees Renton Thurston and Eureka piloting the Nirvash together, realizing they could fulfill a prophecy to unite humans and Scub Coral.
As the story progresses, Dewey's plan culminates in a final confrontation with Holland. He reveals that he has surgically implanted a Compac Drive into his own chest, which acts as a dead man's switch that binds his life to the Earth itself. Declaring that his death will bring forth a new world, Dewey shoots himself in the head. His suicide was the final, calculated step of his plan: it activated special collars he had placed on Eureka and Anemone, designed to transmit a self-destruct sequence that would annihilate the Scub Coral from within if either girl became the Coral's new command cluster. While his hatred and manipulation drive the plot toward a near-apocalyptic conclusion, he notably never directly confronts the main protagonists, Renton and Eureka, in battle, seeing them as pieces in a larger game focused on his brother. Dewey possesses no superhuman physical abilities, but his genius-level intellect, oratory skills, political cunning, and total lack of empathy make him an exceptionally dangerous antagonist.
