Description
Mason Ordrosso is the Chronos Number XII and the eldest member of the elite group known as the Chronos Numbers or Time Guardians. In the original manga, he is portrayed as a wise and experienced figure who was the sole survivor of a war against the Tao users that occurred twenty-five years prior. He appears only briefly near the conclusion of the story, watching events from a distance, and his personality is shown as duty-bound, observant, and cheerful.
The anime adaptation presents a radically different character. Mason serves as a high-ranking planner for Chronos missions at the start, but he is later revealed to be a traitor who has been secretly working against the organization. He is the primary antagonist of the Eden Arc. Twenty years earlier, during the Taoshi War, Mason defected to the side of the Tao users and learned the Ultimate Tao Technique from a Sacred Taoshi, a powerful energy blast. His long-term goal is to use the bio-engineered girl Eve to activate a facility called Eden, which he claims will bring world peace but in reality would absorb all of humanity into Eden to power it.
Mason is the leader of the Zero Numbers, a group of defectors that includes Emilio Lowe, Baldorias S. Fanghini, Kranz Maduke, Shiki, and Doctor Kanzaki. His personal weapon is a suit of golden Orihalcon armor that covers his entire body except for his face, accompanied by two large swords. He is considered one of the most powerful fighters in the anime, easily defeating both Sephiria and Train Heartnet in combat, and forcing even the formidable Creed Diskenth to struggle, though Mason is protected by Eden's power during those fights. It is strongly implied that Mason is killed by Creed at the end of the anime. His motivations are driven by a conviction that the only way to achieve lasting order is through the extreme solution of Eden, and he is willing to betray his former comrades and sacrifice countless lives to achieve it. Over the course of the story, he transforms from a seemingly loyal elder to the ultimate threat, using his wisdom and power to orchestrate a conspiracy that nearly succeeds.
