Erwin Grunspan

Description
Erwin Grunspan was a Belgian actor and voice director, born on March 25, 1973. He was active in his field for over two decades until his sudden passing on December 29, 2021, at the age of 48. Grunspan was a graduate of the Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle (INSAS) in Brussels in 1999. His career began in theater, where he performed classical texts by authors such as Molière, Shakespeare, and Chekhov in contemporary stage productions. This foundation in performance led him to extensive work in short films, television films, and, most prolifically, in the dubbing industry.

Grunspan became a highly active and sought-after voice artist in the French-language dubbing of Japanese animation, lending his voice to a wide array of characters in numerous well-known series and films. Among his most recognized roles in anime are Riguru'd in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime and its spin-off The Slime Diaries, Hank Johnson in Ingress, Seiji in New Fist of the North Star, and Lion in The Princess of the Desert Kingdom. He also provided the voice for the iconic Pokémon villain Giovanni in the special Pokémon Origins. Beyond these, his extensive filmography includes roles such as Van in Gun x Sword, Wolverine in Wolverine et les X-Men, Blade in the Blade anime, Trudge in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's, and various characters in the Beyblade and Naruto Shippūden series.

In addition to his on-screen roles, Grunspan contributed to the industry as a voice director. He served as the dubbing director for the French versions of notable animated series such as Castlevania, Free!, and Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. While his work in animation was extensive, he was also widely known in Belgium and France for being the regular French voice of several prominent live-action characters, including Berlin in the hit series La Casa de Papel and Nick Fury in various animated Marvel series.
