Description
Lust is one of the seven Homunculi, artificial humans created by the entity known as Father in the manga and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. She is the second Homunculus to be created and is associated with the sin of lust, marked by an Ouroboros tattoo on her collarbone. Despite her name, Lust does not embody lust in a traditional sense; instead, she uses her physical attractiveness and charm as tools to manipulate others, capitalizing on their desires rather than acting on her own. Her personality is marked by high intelligence, strategic thinking, and a deep disdain for humanity. She views humans as frail, predictable, and stupid, and she takes pleasure in manipulating and exploiting them for her own purposes. However, she possesses a unique ambition that sets her apart from her siblings: she desires to become human, a trait that is more pronounced in the 2003 anime adaptation where her origins are tied to a failed human transmutation.

In the story, Lust serves as one of Father’s primary field operatives. She acts as an infiltrator, assassin, and information gatherer, often working alongside the more childlike Homunculus Gluttony, with whom she shares a maternal bond. She poses as a military officer or civilian to get close to targets, such as when she deceives Second Lieutenant Jean Havoc by pretending to be his girlfriend under the alias Solaris. Lust is instrumental in manipulating alchemists into creating Philosopher’s Stones and in eliminating obstacles to Father’s plan. She is involved in several key conflicts, most notably a battle at the Third Laboratory in Central City where she faces Roy Mustang, Jean Havoc, Riza Hawkeye, and Alphonse Elric.

Lust’s notable abilities stem from her nature as a Homunculus. She is referred to as the Ultimate Spear because she can extend and harden her fingers into razor-sharp spears capable of piercing nearly any substance. She also possesses enhanced strength, speed, and reflexes, as well as rapid regeneration fueled by the Philosopher’s Stone within her. This regeneration allows her to heal from gunshot wounds or even having her body blown apart, but it is not unlimited; sustained, intense damage can deplete the Stone and kill her permanently.

Her key relationships include her loyalty to Father, her caretaker role toward Gluttony, and her adversarial dynamic with Roy Mustang. Lust underestimates human resilience, particularly that of Mustang, which ultimately leads to her downfall. In Brotherhood and the manga, Mustang, driven by grief over the murder of Maes Hughes, systematically incinerates her with his flame alchemy until her Philosopher’s Stone is exhausted and she dies. In the 2003 anime, Lust’s character follows a different arc, with a more tragic backstory and a deeper exploration of her desire to become human, and her death occurs under different circumstances. Throughout both versions, Lust remains a calculating and ruthless antagonist whose elegance and combat prowess make her a memorable figure in the series.
