Description
Komachi Mikumari is a young girl from the village of Kanna and the younger sister of Kirara, the village water priestess. She accompanies Kirara and Rikichi on their journey to the city to recruit samurai to defend their home, insisting on joining out of curiosity and a desire to help. Komachi is energetic, precocious, and disarmingly blunt in a way that reflects her childish innocence; she is unafraid to ask anyone any question and speaks her mind openly. Her motivations center on supporting her sister, exploring the world beyond the village, and forming bonds with the samurai they gather. She is particularly drawn to the boisterous Kikuchiyo, whom she playfully calls Kiku, often riding on his shoulders and declaring that she will marry him when she grows up. She also develops a fond, sisterly dynamic with the young samurai Katsushiro, treating him like an older brother. Throughout the journey and the ensuing battles, Komachi serves as a source of lightness and optimism, keeping the group grounded through her unfiltered observations. She regularly writes letters to her childhood friend Okara, narrating their adventures and ensuring that the village stays informed. After the final conflict with the usurper Ukyo, Kirara passes on her water crystal to Komachi, making her the new water priestess of Kanna and entrusting her with the responsibility of guarding the village’s water and spiritual well-being. Though she possesses no combat abilities, her keen insight into people’s emotions and her inherited role as a mikumari underscore her growth from a naive child into a capable guardian of her community.
