Description
Nova is a character exclusive to the second season of the Magic Knight Rayearth anime, serving as the secondary antagonist and a dark counterpart to the protagonist Hikaru Shidou. She does not appear in the original manga or the OVA adaptation. Nova was born from the intense guilt and self-hatred Hikaru experienced immediately after being forced to kill Princess Emeraude at the end of the first season. The sorrow and regret were so powerful that they manifested as a separate being, a shadow of Hikaru's own heart, left behind in the world of Cephiro when the three Magic Knights returned to Tokyo. Alone and searching for Hikaru, Nova was found by the villainess Lady Debonair, who took her in and treated her like a daughter, exploiting her confusion and emotional vulnerability to turn her against the Magic Knights.
Nova's personality is marked by extreme instability and emotional volatility. She shifts rapidly between moments of affectionate warmth and violent threats, reflecting the inner turmoil from which she was created. Her entire worldview is defined in opposition to Hikaru: she loves whatever Hikaru hates, and she despises everything Hikaru loves, including her friends Umi and Fuu, as well as Lantis and Eagle Vision.
