Description
Lime is a marionette from the anime Saber Marionette J. She is an android equipped with a special circuit called the otome kairo, or maiden circuit, which grants her the ability to experience and express emotions in a manner almost indistinguishable from a human girl. She was discovered and activated by the young man Otaru Mamiya in the underground chambers of the Japoness History Museum, having been dormant there for a long period before her awakening. Lime is the first of three main marionettes that Otaru brings to life and the most childlike among them. Her personality is characterized by naivety, cheerfulness, and a playful, energetic disposition. She is often described as sunny, peppy, and lively, and she freely shows her emotions without restraint. This openness makes her quick to embrace Otaru and cling to him much like a young child would to a parent. She possesses a natural curiosity about the world and frequently asks Otaru questions about life and human behavior. At the same time, she can be stubborn about her own ideas and sometimes argues with him. As her emotional heart matures over the course of the story, Lime begins to develop a romantic attachment to Otaru and starts to hope that she might marry him. Despite her exuberance, she is also very pure-hearted and easily hurt, being the most sensitive of the three marionettes. Her innocence is a key part of her character, and she is sincere in all her interactions. In terms of her role in the story, Lime is a central figure in Otaru’s life and a core member of the group that forms around him. She, along with Cherry and Bloodberry, accompanies Otaru on his adventures and stands against the antagonists who seek to use or destroy marionettes. Her relationships are defined by her deep bond with Otaru, whom she views as her master and later as a romantic interest, and her sisterly connection with the other two marionettes. Cherry often handles household tasks because Lime’s clumsiness makes her unhelpful with domestic chores. Lime’s temperament contrasts with Cherry’s maternal calmness and Bloodberry’s more mature, direct nature, but the three share a strong loyalty to one another and to Otaru. Over the course of the series and the subsequent OVAs, Lime undergoes development from a purely naive, childlike being into one who understands deeper emotions like love and jealousy, yet she retains her basic sunny personality. Her growth is tied to her evolving understanding of what it means to be human, a theme that runs throughout the narrative. Regarding notable abilities, Lime is distinguished by her incredible speed and agility. Among the three marionettes, she is the fastest, capable of reaching high velocities that allow her to outrun vehicles such as the Hanagata Mitsurugi 3000GT. Her physical performance data includes a maximum momentary speed of 330 kilometers per hour and acceleration from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in three seconds. She also possesses a sensor range of up to ninety kilometers. Her maiden circuit is what sets her apart from regular marionettes, enabling her emotional responses, and she is designated as model JSM-01R. Her physical appearance includes long blue hair tied back with a yellow scarf that has a red ornament, green eyes, and a costume consisting of a white jacket with yellow trim over a black bodysuit. When she walks, her feet produce a distinctive squeaking sound reminiscent of toy hammers or gears. Lime remains a constant presence through the Saber Marionette J series and its sequels, and her blend of innocence, speed, and emotional depth defines her as a character.
