Description
Charlotte Pudding is the thirty-fifth daughter and seventy-sixth child of the Charlotte Family, making her a princess of the Totto Land archipelago and an officer of the Big Mom Pirates. She is a young woman of sixteen years with light brown hair usually styled in pigtails and side-swept bangs. Her most defining physical trait is a third eye on her forehead, a feature inherited from her father's lineage of the rare Three-Eye Tribe. She typically keeps this eye hidden beneath her hair. As a skilled professional, she works as a chocolatier and is the owner of the Caramel cafe on Cacao Island.

Pudding's personality is a complex and tragic facade built from a history of emotional trauma. As a child, she was cruelly bullied and ostracized by both other children and adults in Totto Land because of her third eye, which they called monstrous and hideous. Even her own mother, Big Mom, found the eye disturbing and forced her to hide it with her bangs. This constant rejection caused Pudding to snap, leading her to violently attack her tormentors. To cope with her deep-seated feelings of worthlessness and self-hatred, she developed a twisted, manipulative, and sadistic persona, vowing to deceive others before they could reject her. She became an exceptionally skilled actress, presenting a sweet, benevolent, and shy young woman to the public. Beneath this mask, however, she is cruel, calculating, and takes genuine pleasure in mocking her victims and revealing horrific truths to them just before they are about to die. She holds a low opinion of men, believing them to be easily fooled by tears. Despite this, deep down, her cruel persona is a defensive mask, and her true nature is timid, sensitive, and desperate for acceptance.

Her primary motivation throughout the Whole Cake Island Arc is to serve her mother's grand plan, but this is rooted in a deeper need for her mother's approval. She agrees to an arranged marriage with Sanji of the Vinsmoke Family, perfectly playing the part of a loving and understanding fiancée. This performance is a deliberate act of deception orchestrated by Big Mom to lure the Vinsmoke family into a deadly trap, allowing the Big Mom Pirates to assassinate them and steal their advanced military technology. Pudding's role in the story is initially as an antagonist, as she willingly participates in this scheme, fully intending to shoot Sanji at the wedding altar.

This trajectory changes at the wedding ceremony. When Sanji sees her exposed third eye, he does not recoil in disgust. Instead, he calls it beautiful. This simple, unexpected compliment is the first genuine act of kindness and acceptance Pudding has ever received regarding her most hated feature. It shatters her cruel resolve, reducing her to tears and rendering her unable to carry out the assassination. Sanji further disarms her with his unwavering kindness, including saving her from a collapsing cake. When she later rages at him, insisting that her cruel nature is the real her, Sanji calmly asks if she has also succeeded in deceiving herself. This question forces Pudding to confront her own internal pain and the protective lies she tells herself. Having fallen genuinely in love with Sanji, she undergoes a significant development, helping him and his sister Chiffon bake a new wedding cake to pacify the rampaging Big Mom and assist the Straw Hat Pirates in their escape. Even after this turnaround, her personality remains volatile, oscillating between her new affectionate feelings for Sanji and the ingrained, prickly "tsun" persona she used for so long, often leaving her confused by her own emotions.

Key relationships shape her identity. With her mother, Charlotte Linlin, the relationship is conditional and abusive; Big Mom favors Pudding only for the potential power of her third eye and treats her as a useful tool, not a beloved daughter. With Sanji, she experiences a complete reversal from target of manipulation to the first person to show her unconditional kindness, becoming the object of her intense, genuine love. She holds deep admiration for her older sister, Lola, an escaped daughter of Big Mom, and has refused to take Lola's position as the Minister of Chocolate, believing her sister is more deserving. She works well with her sister Chiffon, with whom she shares a bond over baking.

Pudding possesses notable abilities stemming from her Devil Fruit and her unique lineage. She ate the Memo Memo no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows her to view, cut, and rearrange a person's memories like strips of film. She can remove specific events from a target's recollection and insert false memories in their place, a power she uses to protect her true identity and cover her tracks. She is also proficient with firearms, using a six-shot revolver loaded with special bullets called Candy Jackets, which are powerful enough to pierce the exoskeleton of a Germa warrior like Reiju. As a member of the Three-Eye Tribe, she possesses the potential to awaken the ability to hear the Voice of All Things, which would grant her the power to decipher the ancient texts known as the Poneglyphs. However, as a hybrid (half-human, half-Tribe), it is unknown if she can ever fully achieve this awakening. Due to this latent potential, she becomes a target for powerful forces like the Blackbeard Pirates, who later capture her to exploit this ability.
