Description
Leon McNichol is an officer of the Advanced Police force in MegaTokyo. Originally from America, he worked his way up from the regular police before joining the A.D. Police, a specialized unit tasked with handling crimes involving boomers, the artificial humanoid robots that are a major part of the city's infrastructure. He is a dedicated and hardworking officer who takes his role as a protector of the public very seriously, but he also has a tendency to act impulsively and rush into situations without fully thinking them through. This impulsiveness is balanced by his genuine sense of justice and his desire to do what is right, even when it puts him in danger. Leon is a highly skilled powered armor pilot and is considered one of the top aces in the A.D. Police, piloting the K-11 and K-12S powered suits. His motivations are rooted in a strong sense of duty and a personal commitment to keeping the citizens of MegaTokyo safe from the threats posed by rogue boomers and the powerful Genom corporation. In the main Bubblegum Crisis storyline, Leon finds himself increasingly crossing paths with the Knight Sabers, a vigilante group of women who operate outside the law to fight boomer threats. He initially holds a negative view of the Knight Sabers, seeing them as reckless vigilantes who undermine proper police authority. Over time, his opinion shifts as he recognizes their effectiveness and dedication, and he develops a complex personal relationship with Priscilla Asagiri, the fiery lead singer of the Knight Sabers. This connection becomes a significant side story, marked by rivalry, mutual respect, and a growing romantic tension. Leon is often partnered with his fellow A.D. Police officer Daley Wong, and their partnership is a steady element of his professional life. His character undergoes notable development across the series and its related works. The prequel series AD Police Files explores his early days in the force, showing a younger, less experienced officer confronting the moral and ethical ambiguities of a world where humans and machines blur together. These experiences shape his worldview and his understanding of what it means to be human in a technologically saturated society. By the time of the main series, he has become a more seasoned and capable officer, though he still retains his hot-headed nature. In the Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 reimagining, his role remains consistent as a dedicated officer who serves as a bridge between the official police and the vigilante Knight Sabers. His notable abilities include his exceptional piloting skills in powered armor, his combat training, and his sharp instincts as a detective, all of which make him a formidable asset to the A.D. Police. His unwavering commitment to justice and his growth as both a professional and a person are key aspects of his character.
