Movie
Description
Kenneth Sleg is a commissioned officer in the Earth Federation Forces, holding the rank of colonel before a later promotion to brigadier general. Originally a mobile suit pilot who fought on the front lines during the Second Neo Zeon War, also known as Char's Rebellion, he later transitioned to weapons research and development. In response to the escalating activities of the anti-Earth Federation movement Mafty, he is assigned to command a counterterrorism task force. He reorganizes the existing Kimberly task force into the specialized Circe Unit, which is dedicated to eliminating the Mafty organization. He has a peculiar habit of wielding a personal riding crop as a form of self-discipline or distraction.

Kenneth possesses a complex personality that shifts depending on his company. Among friends and civilians, he is surprisingly frank and personable, acting in a way that one might not expect of a military officer. He can be casual in his speech and treats those he meets, such as Hathaway Noa and Gigi Andalucia, with a friendly and humane demeanor. However, when in front of his subordinates, he adopts the strict and assertive attitude of a proper military commander, although he himself notes that he does not fully understand why his character changes so drastically. He is analytical, confident, and tenacious in pursuing his objectives. While he harbors a certain distrust for the corrupt Earth Federation government, he firmly believes that maintaining law and order through authorized military force is the only way to protect society. This belief puts him in opposition to those who would use terrorism to achieve change, even as he can understand their ideals.

Motivated by a sense of duty to preserve social order and stability, Kenneth's primary goal is to neutralize the threat posed by Mafty. He does not see the organization's leader, Mafty Navue Erin, as a hero but as a dangerous individual who disturbs the peace. However, his motivations are not purely ideological; he is a dedicated soldier committed to his mission and the success of his unit. Later, he is deeply disgusted when the Federation cabinet sentences the captured Mafty to death without a proper trial, using him as a scarecrow to suppress dissenting thoughts, which highlights his personal sense of justice that conflicts with the system he serves.

Kenneth plays a central role in the story as the primary pursuer of the Mafty organization. He first encounters Hathaway Noa and Gigi Andalucia during a hijacking attempt on the shuttle Haunzen. Impressed by Hathaway's combat skills during the incident, Kenneth forms a connection with him, believing his cover as a botanical researcher. This meeting sets the stage for a complex cat-and-mouse game. As the commander of the Circe Unit, he oversees security for high-profile events like the Federation summit in Adelaide and directs mobile suit deployments against Mafty. He is anguished when he eventually realizes that the organization's charismatic leader is none other than Hathaway. After the final battle, his resignation from the military is accepted on the condition that he personally oversee Hathaway's execution, a duty he cannot bring himself to fully face. Following the execution, he later rendezvous with Gigi in Kyushu, hinting at his lasting disillusionment.

His most significant relationship is with Hathaway Noa. Their dynamic is a unique rivalry that is almost friendly in nature. Kenneth respects Hathaway's intelligence and skill, treating him as a friend off the battlefield, yet is also the man dedicated to hunting him down as an enemy. He serves as a narrative foil to Hathaway, representing a belief in working within the system to achieve order, rather than resorting to radical, extra-legal violence. He is also deeply connected to Gigi Andalucia. Gigi's keen intuition allows her to see through Kenneth's facade, and she becomes a presence that sheds light on his doubts and conflicts. He feels a connection to her, and her insights are instrumental in his growing suspicions about Hathaway's true identity.

Throughout the story, Kenneth undergoes significant development. Initially seeing Mafty as merely a dangerous threat to be eliminated, he begins to feel sympathy for the movement's cause as the narrative progresses. The climax of his development is his disgust at the Federation's corrupt and unjust handling of Hathaway's capture and execution, which starkly contrasts with his own sense of honor. This event shakes his faith in the institution he serves, leading to his resignation and a final remark about potentially setting up a similar organization one day, indicating a profound shift in his perspective.

Kenneth is an excellent commander with sharp strategic acumen and insightful judgment. His command abilities are highly regarded, and he is able to turn his unit into an effective fighting force through his leadership and planning. He possesses sharp insights, deducing Hathaway's identity as Mafty through a combination of his own investigation and Gigi's enigmatic hints. As a veteran of Char's Rebellion, he is an experienced mobile suit pilot, though in the events of Hathaway's Flash, his skills are primarily demonstrated through his command and tactical decision-making rather than direct piloting. He is also physically capable, as shown when he assists Hathaway in subduing hijackers on the shuttle.
