Description
Gnauss Wisden serves as Evermore’s trusted Magic Chancellor under King Fidelius Astrum, tasked with curing Princess Astrid’s curse—a role masking his true identity as Sedulus Astrum, the kingdom’s supposedly deceased Crown Prince and Astrid’s uncle. Once heir to the throne and elder brother to Fidelius, Sedulus was sent as a hostage to Beladon during wartime, where he forged a peaceful life with a wife and children. This ended abruptly when his father annihilated Beladon using the enchanted blade Mornstar, obliterating the realm and slaughtering Sedulus’s family. Surviving through forbidden alchemy fused with demonic essence, he rebuilt his body, nurturing a vengeful resolve against Evermore and its rulers.
Under the alias Gnauss, he ascended to royal advisor, manipulating court affairs while secretly commanding the militant Black Banners as their shadowy leader, Galeroth Felgrimm. From the Black Castle, Galeroth engineered external assaults on Evermore, including an assassination attempt on Kotona to sever her soulmate bond with Astrid and eliminate the princess indirectly. Gnauss’s ornate black-and-lavender robes, gold-trimmed and studded with red gems, along with his pink hair and circular glasses, cloak his scarred, magically altered form. When exposed, he sheds this disguise, summoning Galeroth’s armor to confront adversaries.
Driven by vengeance for Beladon’s destruction and resentment toward his family’s abandonment, Gnauss schemes to usurp Evermore’s throne by absorbing Astrid’s latent power. He orchestrates trials to test allies like Yu and Haru, coercing Yu into killing Haru as a loyalty test. His machinations unravel when his dual identity is revealed during a final confrontation. After a failed strike against Astrid, Haru pierces him with Mornstar, ending his reign of subterfuge. Gnauss’s tragic duality—a prince consumed by betrayal and ambition—highlights the corrosive toll of vengeance, intertwining personal vendetta with political upheaval as he destabilizes the kingdom he once sought to inherit.
