Description
Tooru Miyagishi is a 23-year-old junior chef at Kissuiso, working under head chef Renji Togashi. Possessing notable culinary talent acknowledged even by the rival Fukuya Inn, he is called upon to assist when their chefs fall ill. Despite his professional skill, Tooru exhibits an outspoken and easily frustrated demeanor, reacting bluntly to mistakes or inefficiencies.

He shoulders significant responsibility for training apprentice chef Minko Tsurugi, having personally advocated for her position despite her lack of formal qualifications. His mentorship involves rigorous, often harsh supervision, including sharp verbal reprimands when she errs. This strict approach stems from a commitment to high kitchen standards and fostering her growth, though it occasionally borders on excessive criticism. Minko develops romantic feelings for him, leading to jealousy when he interacts with other female staff, particularly Ohana Matsumae, feelings Tooru does not reciprocate.

Initially, Ohana views him negatively due to his temperament and severity towards Minko. Their relationship evolves as he observes her resilience and willingness to rely on others during Kissuiso's operational challenges. He develops a protective interest in Ohana, appreciating her candidness in acknowledging her need for support. This dynamic causes tension with Minko, who misinterprets his attention as romantic interest. Tooru clarifies that his feelings for Ohana are rooted in professional respect and camaraderie, not romance.

His dedication to Kissuiso extends beyond kitchen duties. During the power outage depicted in *Home Sweet Home*, he assists in maintaining guest services. In the series finale, he supports Minko’s career aspirations by advocating for her during a job interview at another restaurant, demonstrating his investment in her professional future despite their complex relationship.

Driven by a desire to eventually lead his own kitchen, Tooru maintains a relentless focus on improvement and innovation. While perceived as abrasive, colleagues recognize his underlying concern for their well-being and his unwavering commitment to the inn’s success.
