Description
Born May 3, 1987, in Nibelheim, Tifa Lockhart lost her mother at age eight. Grief-stricken, she climbed Mt. Nibel believing her mother waited there. Childhood neighbor Cloud Strife followed to protect her but couldn't stop her fall from a collapsing bridge. Tifa suffered severe injuries and a seven-day coma; her father blamed Cloud and forbade their contact.

Years later, Cloud shared his ambition to join SOLDIER with Tifa at Nibelheim's water tower. Tifa secured his promise to rescue her if she ever faced danger. He left for Midgar the next spring but failed to become a SOLDIER, joining the Shinra infantry instead. Tifa scanned newspapers and questioned visiting Shinra personnel for news of him.

At fifteen, Tifa worked as a mountain guide while training in Zangan-style martial arts. She led a Shinra expedition, including SOLDIER operatives Sephiroth and Zack Fair, to a malfunctioning mako reactor on Mt. Nibel. Unbeknownst to her, Cloud was present as an infantry guard, hiding his identity due to shame over his failure. During a monster attack, he anonymously tried to fulfill his promise to protect her but needed her help afterward. Tifa later expressed concern to Zack about the injured guard.

On October 1, Sephiroth, driven mad by discovering his origins, burned Nibelheim. Tifa found her father's body impaled by Sephiroth's sword at the reactor. Declaring hatred for Shinra and SOLDIER, she attacked Sephiroth. He swiftly incapacitated her with a slash from his Masamune, inflicting a life-threatening chest wound. Zack intervened but was defeated. Witnessing Tifa's apparent mortal injury, Cloud confronted Sephiroth before collapsing. Tifa's mentor Zangan arrived, stabilized her with curative magic, and transported her to Midgar for treatment. Her memory of Cloud's intervention remained fragmented.

In Midgar, Tifa underwent surgery involving artificial bone grafts and metal reinforcements for her sternum. After recovering, she joined the anti-Shinra group AVALANCHE, led by Barret Wallace, managing the Seventh Heaven bar as their front. She reunited with Cloud at a Midgar train station, noticing inconsistencies in his behavior and memories. To observe him, she recruited him into AVALANCHE.

During the pursuit of Sephiroth, Tifa grew troubled by Cloud's fragmented identity and false memories of Nibelheim. After Cloud succumbed to mako poisoning in Mideel, she stayed to care for him. When the town was attacked, both fell into the Lifestream. There, Tifa navigated Cloud's subconscious, confronting his true memories, including his childhood feelings for her and Nibelheim's destruction. This restored Cloud's sense of self, and they acknowledged mutual romantic feelings.

Following Sephiroth's defeat, Tifa reopened Seventh Heaven in Edge, near Midgar's ruins. She lived with Cloud, Barret's adopted daughter Marlene, and an orphan named Denzel. When Cloud contracted Geostigma and isolated himself, Tifa managed the bar while caring for the children. After Cloud's return and recovery, they resumed their family life. Tifa later aided Vincent Valentine in combating the DG SOLDIER threat.

Tifa employs martial arts in combat, emphasizing agility and close-range techniques. Her reserved personality contrasts with her physical prowess; she often suppresses her emotions to support others but struggles with fears of abandonment rooted in past traumas. Her white pet cat, appearing during her youth, facilitated key encounters, including introductions to the Turks and Zangan's intervention after the Nibelheim Incident.
