Usopp hails from Syrup Village, son of Red-Haired Pirate Yasopp and the late Banchina. After his mother's death during his childhood, he began fabricating tales of pirate attacks, initially to cheer his ailing mother, later deceiving villagers regularly. He founded the "Usopp Pirates" with children Ninjin, Tamanegi, and Piiman, befriending wealthy heiress Kaya by regaling her with invented adventures. The arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates shifted his path; Usopp bonded with Monkey D. Luffy upon learning Luffy knew Yasopp. Discovering pirate Kuro's plot to assassinate Kaya, Usopp's warnings to the village were dismissed due to his history of false alarms. With the Straw Hats' aid, he defeated Kuro's Black Cat Pirates. To maintain village peace, he kept the incident secret, joined Luffy's crew as sniper, and departed on the ship Going Merry gifted by Kaya. Usopp exhibits pronounced cowardice in danger, frequently trying to flee confrontation. Yet he consistently finds resilience and courage to protect friends or ideals. A skilled inventor and marksman, he crafted Nami's Clima-Tact and wields a slingshot with specialized ammunition like explosive stars. His combat style employs psychological tactics, exploiting opponents' fears, exemplified when he traumatized Sugar in Dressrosa to free enslaved people. Following a two-year separation, he trained on the Boin Archipelago, emerging more muscular and utilizing plant-based Pop Greens ammunition. During the Dressrosa conflict, he awakened Observation Haki, gaining the ability to sense distant auras. During the *Clockwork Island Adventure*, the Trump Pirates stole the Straw Hats' belongings, including the Going Merry and their clothes, while they relaxed on a beach. Forced into makeshift attire like a brown kimono from a wedding store, Usopp and the crew pursued the thieves. They allied with the Thief Brothers—Borodo and Akisu—to infiltrate the Trump Pirates' stronghold, Clockwork Island. Usopp rowed frantically during their voyage to escape Honey Queen and Boo Jack, accidentally dislodging Akisu's treasured music box. After its retrieval, the Trump Pirates attacked, destroyed the boat, and kidnapped Nami. Usopp and the survivors salvaged a raft, reaching Clockwork Island and learning of its oppression under Bear King. Usopp later joined an aerial assault on Trump Castle using a parasail. Facing Skunk One's paralyzing "devil-gas," he blocked the gas nozzle with his body to protect others, resulting in his capture. He was crucified alongside Sanji and Zoro, nearly executed by Bear King's superweapon before Luffy intervened and defeated the Trump Pirates. Usopp's bounties mark his notoriety: 30,000,000 berries under the "Sogeking" alias after Enies Lobby, 200,000,000 after Dressrosa for defeating Doflamingo, and 500,000,000 following Wano Country. His enduring dream is to become a brave warrior of the sea like his father.
