Description
Originally named Asaha Douji in Heian-era Japan, Hao Asakura endured early tragedy when humans, mistaking her for a demon, killed his mother, Douji Asanoha. Orphaned and traumatized, he wandered until meeting the spirit Ohachiyo. Ohachiyo taught him life's positive aspects and introduced Reishi—telepathy enabling Hao to perceive thoughts and emotions. This ability fused permanently with him after an accident during his first Over Soul, leaving him unable to control the constant flood of others' negative emotions. Though he initially used his burgeoning shamanic powers to help others and founded the Asakura family, the overwhelming negativity he absorbed corrupted him, fostering a deep hatred for humanity and a desire to create a world solely for shamans. His descent culminated in the Shaman Fight of AD 1000, where he was killed by his own family after threatening humanity's eradication.

Using the Ritual of Taizan Fukun—an advanced Onmyōdō technique demanding mastery of the five elements and bargaining with the underworld deity Enma Daioh—Hao controlled his reincarnation. He was reborn 500 years later among the Patch Tribe, gaining their spiritual knowledge and stealing the Spirit of Fire, one of the Five Grand Elemental Spirits. In this life, he married and fathered a child while continuing his pursuit to eliminate non-shamans. He was killed again during the Shaman Fight of AD 1500 by his descendant Asakura Yohken and the cat spirit Matamune. Despite defeat, acquiring the Spirit of Fire secured a strategic victory for his next incarnation.

In his third life, Hao reincarnated as the twin brother of his descendant Asakura Yoh, born on May 12, 1985. At birth, he manifested the Spirit of Fire to defend against his grandfather Yohmei's assassination attempt, severely injuring his father Mikihisa. Raised by followers like Brocken Meyer, Hao traveled the world recruiting allies, leaving destruction behind. He murdered Lyserg Diethel's parents for refusing to join him, sparing Lyserg. By age 14, he entered the Shaman Fight of AD 2000 as its most powerful shaman, leading Team "Hoshigumi" with a furyoku level of 1,250,000. His abilities included elemental manipulation via Onmyōdō, curse reflection, and advanced Over Soul techniques utilizing the Spirit of Fire, which he strengthened by feeding it the souls of his victims. He viewed most followers as expendable tools, retaining genuine respect only for Luchist Lasso's mental fortitude and Opacho's pure loyalty. Despite a calm demeanor, he exhibited cruelty when angered, often incinerating opponents soul and body. He expressed discomfort with familial terms like "brother" or "uncle," coldly rejecting such addresses from Yoh and his nephew Hana.

After winning the Shaman Fight and merging with the Great Spirit, Hao became the Shaman King, gaining omniscience, omnipotence, and reality-warping powers. He initiated his plan to annihilate humanity but was confronted within the Great Spirit by the collective souls of past acquaintances, including his mother's spirit. Her intervention, alongside Anna Kyoyama's insight that Hao's loneliness stemmed from Reishi-induced isolation, led him to question his path. Persuaded by his mother to forgive humanity, he postponed the genocide. He accepted Yoh and his allies' proposal to change the world peacefully, opting to observe their efforts indefinitely.

In later years, Hao retained his role as Shaman King but adopted a more passive stance. He mentored his nephew Hana Asakura and appointed him to lead Team Hao during the Flower of Maize tournament, a conflict among Shaman Kings over Hao's postponed plans. While capable of detachment, he displayed subtle concern for Hana's development, reflecting a lingering connection to family despite earlier rejections.
